Oh God, this is still going?.. there's going to be a lot of tears in the Potteries soon. At least we can all dream for a little while, like a shaft of sunlight passing over till the next cloud arrives.

Hang on a min, this is stoke. Didn't Potter offer his services some 5 years ago and we didn't take him up on it. It's easy to say with hindsight, but the Graham Potter of 5 years ago is very different to the Graham Potter of today in terms of achievements. He had been successful in Sweden but it wasn't a given at the time that he'd be a success in England, had he joined us and we'd still been relegated (which isn't that unlikely given the timing of Hughes' sacking and the time left in the transfer window) he'd have faced the usual abuse on here and there would've been uproar about the board appointing a manager with no experience managing in the premier league / championship. I'm not saying he would've been a failure here, he's clearly a very good manager and maybe it would've worked out, but it would've been a gamble at the time. Maybe we missed our only opportunity with Potter, but that's how it goes, I don't blame the board for not appointing him (but I'm also not condoning them appointing Lambert either - the search for a manager that month was a complete shit show).
A win and a draw more than Lambert was all that was required. The choice of almost anyone else keeps us up. We all know which games they were. The team looked fucked in November the biggest problem lay with the board on two counts timing and subsequent selection.

Nuno Espírito Santo to Tony Mowbray is gonna be some knock down to earth for some stoke fans. if its Mowbray im done, i will just cancel my direct debit on my season ticket, i really couldnt take it, i want to see a new direction for the club and for us too break through this ridiculous run of plodding British managers that all offer the square root of fuck all the only reason we were slightly excited by AN was that we stole him from Blunderland and that upset them, it masked that he was again a nothing manager....

Nuno would be a great appointment but will the board listen to the fans? Come on Stoke stop messing about and get him in ASAP

He's had a month off now from his last sacking in Saudi, time to don that big coat again and galvanise a load of players into a fast, attacking, entertaining, maximum points hauling team down at ST4

If Chopper says he's applied, that's good enough for me! Looking at his CV why the hell would he apply for the job at a lowly Championship team, is he out of his mind?

Preying its Nuno. We need a manager that all ...err almost all get on board with, supporters and players alike unite for it to put fire in all our bellies, for it be successful. We need a manager that knows his stuff on the field and off it. Relax john's got this... ...welcome to Stoke Tony Mowbray I could go with that at least he’s got the right approach to the game. Come on you lot get behind him! I've got to say... I'd be fucking gutted

I see financing this the biggest hurdle. If Nuno likes what he hears and he really does want a project he will need to play ball with wages. He must realise that a project has these constraints whomever it is.
Given my previous post on payouts he could afford to back himself for a massive promotion bonus. He has to give some immediate wriggle room for January.

If Nuno has offered his services, it would be very disappointing to see the majority of the other names mentioned to rock up as our new manager IMHO

The project thing is certainly evidence to suggest the rumours of him applying are true. Would be interesting to see or hear the reaction to him asking the owners as to why they didn't approach him in any interview or chats they might have... The honest answer would be the best, 'We didn't think we stood a chance'

I’m as keen on Nuno as anyone but a quick look at wiki, the primary source of most of my football know-how (!) shows that, Wolves excepted, we should expect neither staying power nor a happy ending!
Valencia – 15 months He resigned on 29 November 2015, following a 0–1 away defeat to Sevilla FC, after a poor start to both Valencia's La Liga and Champions League campaigns.
Porto – 11 months The following 22 May, however, after a season devoid of silverware which included a second place in the league,he was relieved of his duties.
Wolves – 4 years On 21 May 2021, Wolves announced that Espírito Santo would be leaving the club by mutual consent at the end of the season.
Spurs – 4 months On 1 November 2021, after his team lost to Manchester United 3–0 at home, their fifth loss in seven matches and which left them ninth in the table, he was sacked after less than four months in charge.
Al-Ittihad – 16 months Espírito Santo was dismissed on 8 November 2023, two days after a 2–0 loss to Iraqi club Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya in the 2023–24 AFC Champions League.

He could live where he lived while at Wolves for 4 years - and he wanted to go back there last year 2. He's richer than God after his Spurs and Saudi pay-offs 3. Sounds like he's sick of players with big egos (apparently had a big fallout with Benzema) after those last 2 experiences, and that Athletic profile said he was open to a project lifting a team up a few levels.

I'd read the same and had similar concerns. However, I think we need to hone in on his Wolves spell most of all. They were a bit of a mess when he joined, a bit like us, and he galvanised them and turned them around. Wolves fans adore him. If he stays here for 3-4 years it's more than likely he'll have been a success.

Just as I expected, we are getting carried away with the fact he's foreign, aren't we?

How many managerial appointments have a happy ending? Yes, maybe its more reflective of the longevity of modern football managers and, as Fuller said above, the crackpot expectations of some clubs. We'd better hope so anyway if he is coming!
