I suppose the only downside is that it will take customers away from the local pubs. The options for pubs around the ground have always been crap, which will help the fanzone's case to attract punters who get there early. But, saying that, I can't see many folks (myself included) who drink away from the ground will be enticed to drink there.

It was great in Hamburg in glorious sunshine and then after the match with free beer, I hope they have free beer on ... I bet they don't have glorious sunshine Only at Stoke

From next season we will have a modern sports bar, an outside drinking area with food & beer trucks and live music/entertainment pre & post match. Good lord what is there to moan about? The club have listened about the wank match day experience and acted, fair fucking play. I'll deffo be heading down the first match it's ready. Shame we'll be in league one with gates of 11k.

If I worked for the club and read this message board I'd think "What's the fucking point, the miserable bastards will moan either way".

I suppose the only downside is that it will take customers away from the local pubs. It won't, that's part of our matchday experience. Most of us are over 50+ and won't want to be standing around in the cold - when most games are played. Plus we probably have a quality requirement that stretches beyond "Carling".

It's a great idea and hopefully they will make a good job of it.
There's clearly some issues with that initial design (cover being the main one) but it's absolutely great they're doing it and hopefully that's just an initial concept of what it could be.
It will get used with where it is and will add value to the matchday experience for those that will use it.
Awesome stuff.

How can anyone moan about this? It beggars belief- nobody is going to force you to use it, are they? Stop bloody moaning, absolute toxic slime leeching the positivity out of everything.

Many fan zones aren’t fully covered ….in fact I’ve yet to see one that is It’s people who’ve wanted this getting their excuses in already despite slaughtering the club for not having one Let’s be honest they’ve clamoured for it but after their initial curiosity they won’t use it It’s pathetic but synonymous with Stoke on Trent people in general

I think you’re being a tad dramatic before it’s been built. I expect it to be used regularly.

The concourses are always full before a game, the biggest threat anything has from this is the concourses really.
People that get there early anyway and have a drink down there.

I personally think its a good idea but there are downsides. There's a lot of fans who travel to the game from a bit further afield for whom parking up in time to go to a pub in Fenton or Stoke town centre isn't viable (I'm one of them, if I have a decent run I use the Harvester and that's about it). I see this as a bit of a gap filler for those people plus those with families who might just go into the ground early currently or mooch about pre-match. I only see it as a positive.........

This is another great example of the new people coming into the club and doing stuff. It always felt like the club had stagnated under Scholes and I believe the non-footballing elements have seen a dramatic improvement.
The email marketing is so much better, the video before kick-off is much better than playing the usual stuff, being asked questions about your experience is helpful and now this.
I have friends that live by the Man City stadium and there's is so good that they go to the fan park to get food without going to the game. I'm not going to say ours will be great but the problem we have is the ground is in the middle of nowhere but there is land so this feels like it could be a great change but most importantly well done for the club for trying to improve things.

It's definitely a step in the right direction, I just hope there are enough creatively minded folk involved to make it decent.
On a personal note, I'd prefer to see a variety of independent food/drink stalls involved, as it'd push the competition for higher quality than we currently have; however, I do see the conflict in that it could take too much money away from the club's own below bog-standard food and drink inside the ground.
Barnsley's food and drink offerings is what we should be aiming for, the food they have on offer is utterly brilliant.

It provides an opportunity for local independent businesses to promote their food and drink to a large number of people. Hopefully most of the outlets will be small businesses who perhaps just have a pop up stand to cater at weddings, birthday parties, festivals etc. I hope Carling will stay away.

It was great in Hamburg in glorious sunshine and then after the match with free beer, I hope they have free beer on ... The Sainkt Pauli one was brilliant. Met some great locals after the game in the fan park who I still stay in contact with today. Never saw or used the one at HSV though when we played them, we found a little beer garden in some woods 10 min walk from the ground and used that instead, surreal footballing experience. Love the fan culture in Germany, for an English football fan it’s possibly the best in the world.

Am hoping if we ever were to get promoted again that we could get the Hoff to do a version of his timeless tune that took down the Berlin Wall all those years ago on the fanzone stage.
Coates has the money and I think the Hoff could do with it.
Teary eyed thinking about it

Looking at the artist impressions it looks like a bigger version of the below. As long as it's not chucking it down or arctic weather it should get plenty of use, even in the colder months. No different than going the outdoor Christmas markets in somewhere like Manchester and enjoying a drink and food outside, big coat weather etc. Looks like the outdoor picnic area adjacent to the now defunct Little Chef off the A14 near Stowmarket! Not necessarily somewhere one would wish to dwell for any extended period of time

But I have longed been baffled as to why football clubs in general haven't shown the initiative to get supporters to the ground earlier and get them to stay longer. So overdue but fair play to the owners, I hope it's a success.

It shouldn't be beyond the wit of man (even Stoke City) to throw a waterproof cover up over part of it even as an after thought. Lots of beer gardens have them even retractable ones, they can't be that expensive. They could even stick electric patio heaters under them.

Not sure about Stoke but in the US most food and drink vending is outsourced to a third party company via contract. In the last decade in all sports stadiums here, including local minor league clubs, the food and drink has expanded to include local vendors and regional favorites for beer and food. They still offer the standard burgers, hot dogs and popcorn, but also have stalls and areas for local breweries and restaurants that have more upscale stuff. Hopefully they do the same for this Fanzone (though I may not be there for a few years ).
