I was a big fan of running out to 'Hate To Say I Told You So' by The Hives. Would have been around the Gifton/Darell Russell/Ed de Goey era. Top tune 👍 Another cracking tune

Lose Yourself is an absolutely brilliant walk out song and should be used. I’ll be disappointed if this is dropped as part of the overhaul of the pre match “atmosphere.” Someone might have emailed in complaining it’s too dramatic an instrumental song and Tristram was scared by it

I am absolutely amazed and disgusted that a decision the silence and let’s have it right, cancel the playing or even the name Delilah from being associated with our club. Ever likely the club have stayed quiet on this and not made a comment. So basically we’ve had some lefty woke headed women email the club to get it banned? Now if they are Stoke fans , I bet Tristram gets out of his seat to shout the referees a wanker after kick off but his mum is offended by the lyrics of Delilah which he can sing with his mates at school during the week anyway. Or have the club actually checked they are Stoke female fans that complained, because I now remember something at the time now on the news with people trying get Delilah banned everywhere. Are we sure they weren’t actors working for C4? 😜 Here’s me thinking the club actually listened to some on here a while ago saying we should stop playing it and let our fans generate our own atmosphere before kick off, yeh like that has worked! The players when we got promoted singing it alongside Peter Coates in the upper tier, 10 years in the prem belting it out to 30k every week. Other fans booing it because they know it’s our song, and because 2 women have emailed the club it’s banned. Unbelievable Jeff. I thought it was overdone too many times a game. Now I hope it’s sung all the time loud and proud I said I would bow out of the discussion and want to, but it is important to clarify and correct a couple of things in your post, sportsman. I said quite clearly that I am certainly not a spokesman for the Club. My reasons for supporting it not being played before a game, and for the renaming of 'Delilahs' may or may not be the same as the Club's. Their reason might be the one you indicated ( and once supported). That's for the Club to comment on. You said that you didn't believe that anyone had complained about Delilah and just to correct that I said that I knew that some had because I had been copied in. You have now taken the further leap to saying because 2 women have emailed the club, it's banned. I have no reason to believe that's the case. I can't even recall whether those emails pre-dated or post-dated the decision to stop playing it before games. And the complaint was about the fans singing it, something which of course the Club couldn't stop. To say something is 'banned' implies that some organisation or authority has stopped someone else from doing something. To use it to describe the Club itself taking the decision to stop playing it, is an odd use of the word "banned". At the recent Fan Assembly the Club, to their credit, asked those present what they would like to see in the pre-kick off period to build up the atmosphere. No-one verbally asked for the restoration of playing Delilah ( although it is of course possible that it could have been put on the post-it notes and/or the feedback form). But as stated above you or any other fans can email the Club to ask for it to be restored. For the reasons I gave above, I would be surprised if such a request was successful.

Don't think there was ever prawns in any form I don't touch seafood but great meat pies ..made by the chefs not some Wrights thing . Maybe they could do a prawn pie...Badgo can create the fish from his secret fish lab above Retro pub. He could breed prawns with crab sticks and herring...a kind of.. menage a fish. Will leave that idea with him.

I don't think it will ever come back, sportsman. Even though it was sung by a national icon and has never been banned by broadcasters as far as I know, it's about a man murdering a woman with a knife in a fit of sexual jealousy, which hardly feels appropriate in modern society, and makes some fans, particularly women, feel uncomfortable. The Stoke fans version, in so far as it has a meaning, appears to be about a man threatening rape. Some parents bringing their children feel uncomfortable about the language in our version. I know that the Club had complaints for both those reasons. Obviously, those singing Delilah do not take the words literally or seriously, but whatever you think of those arguments, why have an anthem which makes some fans feel uncomfortable? We surely want something which all fans feel they can sing and enjoy. The words also have nothing to do with football. For those reasons, personally I think the Club was right to stop playing it, and right to re-name the fans bar as "Ricardos", despite the tremendous sound and atmosphere which a rendition of Delilah can create. You may recall that welsh rugby had a similar debate about it. Personally, I love "we'll be with you", which is unique to Stoke City, was written by a Stoke girl, Jackie Trent, and her husband, Tony Hatch, specially for our '72 Wembley final, and the words of which perfectly sum up the relationship between the fans and the team. I mentioned this to someone a few weeks ago who said was threatening violence etc and should be banned off the radio etc I pointed out to him that the opening line of Bohemian Rhapsody surely means that should also be banned if going down that route . It was voted the greatest song of all time by Radio 1 ...not by me. Personally I would ban it because it's Queen but that's another story One rule for Welsh people and one for blokes with huge moustaches and Spandex pants We do like banning stuff these days though I believe it's accepted that the Queen lyrics relate to Freddie coming out as gay and killing off his old straight self. If so, massively different to sexual violence or rape. Personally I've found our version of delilah cringeworthy for years. Good at full volume but not good lyrics

I’m only going post once more on this and my final say. I respect your views Malcolm and others on here who don’t want it restored. My final point though is, you say it’s an odd use of the term banned above, but to me it still seems like the fact a couple of women have emailed the club to stop it being played, and the fact that at the time on the news there were discussions on the words of the song, the club have taken the view that they’d prefer to not play it. The timing alongside the changing of Delilah’s bar, which I haven’t got a problem with by the way, all seems like the club don’t want the band Delilah associated with the club, and I stick with my view that it’s all because of the couple of complaints and in the news at the time. Stop being played, banned, call it what you will, for me, the fact you said if I contacted the club you feel it wouldn’t be reinstated means effectively it’s banned. That’s my last point on it. For me it’s a shame, but a sign the way the country has and is going.

Completely agree, I’ve got 2 young lads who are both Stoke mad and join in with everything they hear. Thankfully they haven’t worked out what the Stoke versions words are, and I’ll be damned if I’m telling them, but it’s so deeply inappropriate, and I’m not remotely ‘woke’.

I honestly didn't know that the Delilah's name-change was because of this, until I read it here. What a situation the Club has put itself into. Purely woke. Just to be clear, onepara, I don't think anyone has said that. I said that I was personally pleased at the re-naming, and gave my reason and why I don't like the song (call that "woke" if you like, but I don't think that helps the discussion) which may or may not be the same at the Club's reason. That's for them to comment on. As others have commented, when you do a full refurbish, it can be a good idea to do a re-naming/re-branding to go with it, and in this case presented an opportunity to make the link with an iconic player, which may well have been the main factor behind the decision. And of course a decision can be for more than one reason. Well I did assume that, as you say Malcolm, it was as a part of the re-launch of the premises. It just seems to me to be a coincidence that it has been renamed, more or less, at the time that the song was considered inappropriate. After so many years!
