I’m going 38 minutes into the Sunderland game Very much doubt he'll be fit enough to feature in the Sunderland game. He hasn't played a competitive game for a minimum of 5 months. If Rose is fit, I think it will be him and McNally with Clark on the bench.

Having to make this signing just shows the mess Neil has put us in. Abject planning A signing that I am sure was desired earlier just didn’t happen. In light of where we are it’s only good, maybe clutching at straws but has as been pointed out so much amongst many threads we need a defender or two , am pretty certain that the powers that be wanted to strengthen in this area, just didn’t happen. Do it like doing a jigsaw with a missing corner, am sure the club are aware. I want that one !!!!

Been a decent player in the past,we desperately need another centre half and at 34 plenty of experience.
What's not to like?

Good to see we've finally done something about our defensive situation. How long till he gets match fit, and then gets injured ?

Well it’s a body, let’s hope he’s still got something in the tank and can stay injury free for more than 5 games.

With Wilmott out for 3 months, I'd say Clarke staying fit until at least the window opens is crucial.

He is a decent defender who will also get a few goals. He will bring a little bit of nastiness that we are currently missing.

What are the chances that the 17 games this bloke is fit for are the exact 17 games we need him?
One in a zillion probably. More likely he’ll be unfit throughout this desperate period of Laurent at centre back, then be good to go after we’ve signed 6 centre backs in January (funded by the sale of 4 wingers, meaning we’ll be scouring the free agent list of wingers in February).

They made this gamble in January and we just squeaked through to the end of the season!
Now they're having to make this signing having failed in the gamble, lessons have been learned.

at this moment in time we have to go down the road of out of contract players, the window open again in january so we might look at other options,

Obviously a necessary signing given the situation we find ourselves in, but I would be very surprised if a 34 year old who hasn’t played for months doesn’t encounter some kind of injury difficulty.
Notwithstanding how match sharp he’s going to be after such a lengthy absence. That said the club didn’t really have much choice given the unsustainable circumstance.

I think it's a good signing, left footed centre back, good in the air, scores a few too and should be good in the dressing room
Keep him fit and I think him plus one from the others will be our choice of centre halves
Pity we didn't get him or another pre window closing but at least we've gone some way to fixing it

How can Ricky Martin seriously describe this bloke as a " cultural architect " . Why not just be honest and say , when he was helicoptering around Clayton wood, he noticed we don't have any left footed defenders , so he got this guy in . TBF , he has involved in some reasonable signings over the summer. But why does he talk such drivel ? Strange fella . Have you not watched Ricky Martins transfer review video? 🤣 Basically he said he had 5 building blocks in terms of recruitment and one of these is a "cultural archichet". Sounds like something Ted Lasso would say
