Was he really that bad today? If he can’t come on and give it all then surely he won’t be back vs Leeds you’d guess

Woeful woeful player, stealing a wage, yet keeps getting onto the pitch, stopping better players from getting games.

If this manager and his staff can’t see it then they are in the wrong job. It’s obvious there’s a problem with effort , attitude or he’s not fit. Don’t like to single players out but he annoys the fuck out of me

Bloke is a disgrace. He saunters around the pitch without a care in the world. He offers nothing to the team. He doesn’t work hard, doesn’t provide any energy, creates nothing and the game just passes him by.
When he’s on the pitch we’re playing with ten men. Should never start a game again for us. Get rid

He just drifts through games, he won't bust a gut and fight for the team.....even today when he came on he was exactly the same. I could never understand him being made captain but then looking through the team who is. Hes certainly not starting 11 material.

He's got the look of someone who has his mind elsewhere. I sincerely hope all is well with him and/or his family away from the pitch.

He's got the look of someone who has his mind elsewhere. I sincerely hope all is well with him and/or his family away from the pitch. It’s a fair point - you do never know what is going on in players minds. He just looks completely bereft of any confidence and ability at the moment. The same with Johnson. Why he continues to play him after the international break, where he will have been all over the world, baffles me.

I absolutely detest Laurent so I can sometimes be a bit biased. I’m glad other fans have seen the same today. At times he looked like he wanted to play poorly. When him and Thompson came on, Neil was probably thinking that two experienced players would settle us down.
They did the exact opposite and Lauren t was the worst. Absolutely disgraceful!

Thought I'd come on here and find pure positivity.
Glad to see his shite didn't go unnoticed to be honest. I'm off to find the mmaee thread.

3 things stood out for me today:
1 - when he first came on he didn’t want the ball, he was pointing for it to be passed to others. I said I’d probably sub him off again after ten mins.
2 - when he turned into 3 players near their box I genuinely put my head in my hands because it was one of the stupidest things I’d seen on the pitch for a while - he had about 3 other passes on or could have stood still and it would’ve been better.
3 - in injury time he did make a decent run and actually looked bothered. It took a while but it was a spark and showed what he can do.

Josh needs a few weeks away from the playing, freshen up and clear his head. His cameo today shows he isn't at it at all. We have cover. A few years away from playing would be better.

A few goals last season covered up a player who actually has no attributes as a footballer. He’s playing like he wasn’t allowed a move in the summer when he was desperate to leave. We are now all suffering. Regardless of his feelings the captaincy should be removed immediately it’s clearly affecting him.

Have you just heard it mentioned then assumed it to be true or do you have some genuine information that you believe is from reliable source? Granted he’s playing terribly but I’m interested to know where this “desperate to leave” stuff has come from.

He’s been here for two transfer windows and in both someone was doing a lot of talking to the press about him moving. Now I don’t think the press would give a shit about him otherwise so where was that coming from? I thought he was playing last season like he didn’t want to be here too. He just looks like he thoroughly hates being here and has done from the start.

I don’t see that at all. He’s a happy lad around the place and seems to get on well with everyone.
He has a very languid style, almost like he’s playing within himself and that, I think, could be mistaken, for not caring.
I’m not sure that’s true.
He’s playing really badly and whereas Johnson plays badly but still demands the ball, Laurent seems to “shrink” or in modern day parlance “hide”.
I see a lad playing poorly and being unnecessarily weighed down with the burden of captaining a team of perennial strugglers.
All that being said, if he doesn’t want to be here and someone else wants him, sell him. We don’t have a single player that has been here for a season or more that is worth keeping should someone else want them.

He’s a beast of a bloke yet he plays like he’s 4 foot tall and weighs 6 stone. He does nothing well and has had nearly 18 month at the club and maybe had 5 good games. He’s absolutely useless and has been from the get go. The free pass he got last season because he seemed a character was fucking pathetic.

Players can be poor players without being desperate to leave. Happen despite having the physical attributes to be a super player, he’s actually, quite simply, not very good. As I know all too well, just because you are big and physical doesn’t necessarily mean you can play football. He’s probably been able to rely purely on his physicality throughout his journey. When you can no longer do that, players tend to get found out. It’s something you see regularly. Liam Delap being a good recent example.

It doesn’t explain the fuss around him in the press in 2/2 transfer windows though about him moving. That has to have came from one of two places. He’s 28, he’s not a kid. He was highly regarded at Reading and not playing academy football for them where physicality can overcome talent. I just think he’s a gutless wonder. Always have done.

He played at Shrewsbury and a reading team that bummed around at the bottom of the table. Gutless wonder or not, he’s typical of the players that have represented us for far too long. When things are tough, most of our players tend to go missing. We battled really hard yesterday and when we were up against it, we dug in and fought hard to get over the line. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it happened with 11 new players on the pitch with the worst players to feature being those that were here in previous seasons.

Hoever will never be the best defensively but he at least helped us get up the pitch. Travers is Travers. A decent shot stopper (and he made a couple of good saves again) but he’s shocking under the high ball and rooted to his line. I’m not a fan but he does at least make saves. Johnson looks like he’s on his way down. Credit to him for not hiding though. You notice how bad he is because he keeps demanding the ball. As bad as he was, he played like Zidane compared to Laurent and Thompson

How long does Laurent have left on his contract? If he wanted to leave the last two windows why would the manager make him Captain? It doesn’t make sense. As DJ says, he’s a chirpy character off the pitch but a shrinking violet on it. Let him go in January and bring someone else on if it really is what he wants but I think he’ll be here until the season’s end.

It suggests AN is a weaker personality than we think. Can’t accept he’d bow to a player’s wish to leave by making him skipper.

Let’s agree to disagree. Not for the first time of course… That’s boring but ok. I am intrigued though as to why you thought he made him captain? Like what had he done to deserve it? He’s just a spineless shitbag to me and has been from the get go so I just can’t see why anyone would still even have wanted him in the summer. But there was loads of gullible idiots that fell for his clown act.

Not for the first time this season DJ was having a nightmare. Couldn’t weight some relatively simple through-ball opportunities whilst gifting the opposition with a chance that, had they taken, likely would’ve been the difference between winning and losing yesterday. Settled down in the second half but I don’t think he should’ve made it onto the pitch for the second half. He has been atrocious this season and should become backup to Bae for the rest of his stoke career! DJ is 31. He is always going to be a depreciating asset. Even if he gets back to his peak level from his Preston days, we know it’s not a particularly high peak. Bae is over 10 years his junior and has already shown more than DJ, despite the obvious fact that Bae is a young bloke who’s moved across the world to a completely new league. He is destined for a higher level and we should focus fully on his development; and the best way to do that is by playing him.
