I'm surprised by the amount of negativity at this announcement, even for the chronically depressive Oatcake. The turnaround in the team's attitude has been remarkable since Walters arrived, albeit we are still far from where we need to be. But to have somebody on board who knows what it means to pull together as a team and punch above your weight is invaluable. Good luck to the guy. Has it? We’re just playing how we started under Schumacher before he weirdly went all defensive.

Always liked Walters as a player - what he didn't have in ability he more than made up for with heart
I feel very positive about the appointment: knows the club, know the fans and I'm sure he has past managers to draw on for advice (except Roy Keane 😅)

If that interview was just in written text to read you’d think Tone was back…..talks about DNA, the people of Stoke, hard work and I particularly liked the reference to pushing people and sometimes it won’t be nice 😂
He’s making all the right noises…….goarrrrn Tony!

There’s 3 of us that aren’t and it’s not really even Walters 🤣

It’s certainly from the TP hymn sheet and quite right too. DNA, culture, standards & togetherness played a huge part in our success under TP. SJW was signed by TP, had his best playing days under the man and he’s clearly a disciple. Gooooooooaaaaarrrnnn Jon!

SJW & lazy arsed in the same sentence interesting of course could say ' Bayern with lazy arsed logic re SJW appointment' , to be fair that works Walters was lazy arsed at tracking back too. So it’s not too much of a stretch 🤣 Take it you're just feeling it with the wind ups tonight? Pretty good job so far

Would like to see Schumacher name the side tomorrow and say let Swansea worry about us* *not really, you need to get any edge you can but it would be cool to be in such a place of strength to say there you go deal with it

Best of luck, Jon.
Reality is folks no matter who they’d appoint they probably wouldn’t get it right so at least it’s been given to a fella that loves the club as much as it’s most loyal supporters.
I do think though some of the criticism is harsh on both Jon and John.
Jon is more qualified than people seem to acknowledge. And John has appointed a man far more qualified than people seem to acknowledge who also happens to be a modern day Stoke City stalwart.
Let’s assess in two years time where we’re heading. Jared’s rightfully getting another summer at least. And the club has seemed far more positive since Walters has come in.
And if I’m being honest, the criticism is odd because no fucker - and I mean no fucker, because why would you - truly has any idea what a good permanent ‘Sporting Director’ would look like. And equally, we don’t know the day-to-days of Walters’ time in office yet - beyond the fact he’s done enough for Coates to pay him big bucks to do it permanently.

Yes best of luck Jon you going to need it,if we stay up and it goes tits up next season then who do the fans blame now, he's Stokes golden boy and it will be hard for the fans to call for his head so clever move by the chairman

If no Million options are Haksabanovic wide right (he'd be better there than left imo), Videgal on the right with Bae left side, Leris or Campbell wide right with Ennis down the middle Swansea play the ball out still so whoever plays we have to press and press high I'd be playing Baker further up the pitch in this scenario

I’ve been disappointed with Haks you can see he’s got ability but his final ball/shot is terrible.

We had a spate of left backs scoring against us, why do you think that was? Walters would switch off and couldn’t do it. Arnie was so much better at tracking back and protecting his full back.

Loved him as a player, he is a rottweiler character who wont take any prisoners or accept half measures from anybody, despite how polite he looks and talks in his interviews - he is the right appointment at this moment in time for a club that has been suffering from inertia for too long. Step up or move on should be the mantra for everybody at this club at the moment - and I think JW is the man to drive that message forward. McNally mentioned in one of his interviews, a few weeks ago, that he thought the club had slept walked into the relegation fight, which when you contemplate those words is not a good look for our club, basically meaning players were not switched on and giving heart, nerve and sinew for the cause, at all times, is how I read that - I think that will be a thing of the past under JW, as will days off, slack training, players not knowing what is expected of them, poor diet and players returning from pre-season over weight etc He will install a different a different DNA at the club or will at least try to, which I hope extends to politely telling JC where he is going wrong when needed also

There were a few weary legs at full time on Saturday to say the least. He will go with this: Iversen Hoever Rose McNally Stevens Thompson Burger Baker Leris Ennis Vidigal There’s a few toss ups there though. Is Thompson fit enough? If he is then it’s a coin toss between Baker and Laurent. But I thought Laurent look fucked. Ennis and Campbell too. Campbell did well when he came on but Ennis gives you legs. So think he will go with Ennis. Vidi or Bae - good opportunity to rest Bae and give a shot player who scored in the last game a go. Not sure he should be doing that but there’s a bit of logic there. And it’s not like he’s starting a complete blocker there. Again that team has balance and enough to nick a win away. I’d probably go with Campbell on the right myself as I think he’d run rings around Tymon. But Leris should destroy him in the air.

Jon’s enormous contribution to the club yet it was his supposed half-arsed tracking back that needs bringing up.
Only Bayern… never change son, ya make the Oatcake an interesting read.

We need the front three to press them hard and force a mistake or two out of their defenders. I’m not a huge fan of Ennis or Leris but this should be a good game to play both of them.

Best of luck Jon.
For me the temporary role just didn't make any sense once he started making long term decisions - making him permeant was the sensible thing to do. I'm sure this will be well received behind the scenes and getting rid of the uncertainty can only be a good thing.

Jon’s enormous contribution to the club yet it was his supposed half-arsed tracking back that needs bringing up. Only Bayern… never change son, ya make the Oatcake an interesting read. I never liked him as a player. Just thought he played a lot and that meant he scored more than he should have. I also have sympathy for him because I think TP and Hughes used him way too much to his detriment. Because when he was actually fresh, he wasn’t a bad player. But they flogged him and then he became just the runner with the odd bit of quality. When he was fresher he was actually quite a decent finisher. It was when he had been flogged he would miss too much etc. He’s a Tory. I wish him well him in this role though because we need him to be good. I’m not sure he’s done much so far tbh. But he’s definitely got most of the fans inside which is I guess is good. I think the stuff on the pitch has hopefully come from Schumacher realising he fucked up and going back to what he was doing when Walters wasn’t here. There’s no difference imo. I guess the summer and up until October will tell us if he’s really made a difference and if Schumacher has learned.

Absolutely buzzing about this.
We have been missing the DNA from our Prem season, SJW is someone who had it in abundance. Hopefully he will be able to inject some of that back into our team.
Congrats Super Jon, top guy.
