We spent more than most of the teams above us. Our manager is the 7th longest serving manager in the division. Our wage bill is assessed as the 7th largest in the division. A decent manager would achieve a comfortable top half finish given the situation outlined above. A good manager would expect top 6 at least. There are no excuses for Alex Neil to fail this season. Of course we spent more than most teams above us, we have had to bring in 18 players and unless you wanted a squad full of average league 1 players we had to test the water abroad to find value so you're looking at half a squad that have never played English football, probably never even set foot in the country which brings its own problems early doors. The amount spent was also offset by sales, so what is the true net spend? It's extremely low I know that much. Come the end of the season he's going to be praised by fans, media and pundits alike for the transformation, I'm sure of it. The next couple of windows have never looked so appealing if these new incomings are anything to go by If we have a genuine run at the playoffs he will deserve praise: anything less and he will deserve his P45.

I think you're getting this squad confused with squads of previous years, I'm content we have a good balanced group of players and a good tactically astute manager with a history of promotions, that doesn't equate to bottom half mediocrity, I think come the end of the season you'll be pleasantly suprised. In the meantime it will be a lot easier if more got behind the team and the manager. Just enjoy it, that's what it's all about. I do pity you if you cant enjoy this team after the unbalanced untalented shit we've been served up for years

Without my support? Grow up mate I’ve been supporting them for too many years to remember. You sound like some bloody chatbot. “We’re on the right road…… the manager has got this” I support Stoke City, managers come and go. What type of supporters don't give 18 new players a chance to acclimatise and gel though, a whole new squad of them Football supporters

What type of supporters don't give 18 new players a chance to acclimatise and gel though, a whole new squad of them Football supporters Reasonable & knowledgable supporters know the craic when you bring in a squad of unknowns in numerous amounts, especially if it includes high numbers of foreign players, it's not a simple case of clicking your fingers and you have an oven ready gelled team ready to come out the blocks like Usain bolt. If football management was that simple everybody would be doing it

If football management was that simple everybody would be doing it They wouldn't 'all be doing it' though, would they? If you took the world's top 20 managers, dropped them into a PL club each, for next season, then 3 of them would get relegated, and another 3-5 would be flirting with relegation for some portion of the season. So half of those 20 'world class managers' would be looking at the wrong end of the table. That doesn't make them bad managers, it simply means that for every winner, there's a loser. Managing a football club is significantly harder than anyone on The Oatcake can imagine. Alex Neil needs to find away to be more successful than his counterparts, whatever that looks like. We've seen some signs of encouragement, in the past couple of games. I actually think that better decision-making by the players in some cases, would take us up a notch. That's mostly on them, not the manager. The art of 'getting rid' these days, seems to have disappeared - are they shit-scared of the crowd's reaction if they hoof it into Row Z, I don't know? November and December fixtures look like 2 months where we really could/should start to push on, at least stabilise.

In the first half we played as well as we have done since the start of the 21/22 season.

I think you're all mithering over nothing to be honest, we're going in the right direction, the players are up for it and they're individually better and the team/squad is more balanced than anything we have had since before relegation.

Football supporters aren't reasonable. You do know that? Well don't expect a well established fully functioning, effective team then, if you're not prepared to wait you don't deserve the end product. Why aren't Chelsea ripping it up after buying anybody expensive that will come to them AN got off to a poor start. Not helped with injury and some poor officiating. He's shown he's got something with those last 2 wins. Most importantly its obvious the players are playing for him with the increased work rate these last 2 games. For me he's done enough to see xmas and if he continues to get results then his job is safe. He got close to the bullet in my opinion but I'm delighted he's come out fighting after the international break.

Could have buckled but no leads us to two wins back to back against two top champo clubs with promotion aspirations. It's no coincidence we look better now the players know each other and what the manager expects of them.

Who spent over £100 million on his incomings. Remind me how much we spent this summer? Did we top £10 miliion? They spent less than £40 million. And brought in more than £70M from sales.

Burnley let 30 plus leave and brought in 24 according to Wiki.

Seriously, who in their right mind would expect a newly formed team to hit the ground running? Vincent Kompany. Except they didn't, at this same point last season they'd won the same amount of games as we have. He'd just made them harder to beat but they certainly hadn't hit the ground running.

4 points off the play-off positions with 33 games to play 'after' signing a whole new team that didn't have the benefit of a preseason together and half never even played in England.
He's doing a banging job under the circumstances.
If we can be 4 points off the play-offs after needing a quarter of the season for it to gel it bodes very well for the rest of the season because we've been playing with a handicap, not to mention large amounts of injuries

Why aren't Chelsea ripping it up after buying anybody expensive that will come to them You've made good points. But you're dancing around the point that football supporters aren't reasonable. As someone said earlier, win 3 and the manager is a god. Lose 3 and he should be sacked. Neither are true.

He'd just made them harder to beat but they certainly hadn't hit the ground running. 22 points after 13 games. 2 points off top. Bottom line is Neil has had very poor results so far at Stoke. He has chosen to change his off field staff, coaching team and players. If he achieves a positive finish in the league this season he will deserve praise. Other managers have achieved success in similar circumstances. Alex Neil does not have the excuse that he is attempting some unprecedented, never before achieved, impossible task. I am hopeful and wish him well.

I am hopeful and wish him well. The way I see it is he's come through a very rough patch and the last 2 games have proved he's potentially onto something. He has dealt with poor officiating, big injury list and getting a mixed bunch of inexperienced players looking like they will both put a shift in for him and are capable of some decent football. If we can now become a solid team picking up regular wins along the way up in the top 10 then I'd say that's a decent season. But next season will need a tilt at the play offs. I still think he was poor last season though and almost took us backwards but I'm happy to forget all about that now. I'm sure he'll be delighted to hear my thoughts 😆 🤣

They spent £42.3 million on ten players making three free transfers and loaning another 6. Stoke spent £17.5 million on 6 players +Junior, six free transfers and 5 loans. Burnley also kept at least ten of their Premier squad, a big advantage over Stoke who kept 4 which included two gk's.

Finally settled on his system which is all that people we're asking for, let's hope we can now find an answer against teams that sit a little deeper.

Ok so it’s the end of October.
Many wanted AN sacked a few weeks ago. What are we thinking now.
For me the end of October seemed a reasonable time to judge.
Verdict: ok. Things seem to be slowly turning. Happy for AN to stay in place.
Anyone still want him out?

Biggest ‘back from the brink’ we’ve seen with a manager?
The only thing I can think of that comes close is Odemwingie turning our fortunes round in Hughes’ first season.
