I can't work him out at all. I'm starting to think he's a second striker, as a 10 type rather than a midfielder. He still doesn't grit out enough for a 6 or an 8 for me yet his goalscoring prowess is pretty damn good. Second striker off a target man anyone or get rid? That’s my issue with him. He’d be a great 7 a side player. Where you’re not allowed to slide tackle.

He should be one of the first on the team sheet being one of the few who can score and take good set pieces!

For Stoke he scored goals for MON. Found it difficult with Neil. And scored with SS hasn't he? Neil was a car crash You're right , he's done it under managers who have a slight clue . No coincidence He does it for the managers who have him 10 yards higher up the pitch. Makes a massive difference to him in particular

I really hope we keep him. He can play a bit part role and still score 8-10 a season. That’s not something you say very often.

Thompson was average today, second half they squeezed him more and he got caught several times. We need better Thompson is always average and is always a consistent 6 out of 10. You need the odd player like him, you know what you're getting with him but to progress we do need someone who's a consistent 7/8 out of 10. But there's a place in the squad for him. I thought he was much better than a 6 today, between him and Gibson for MOTM.

The manager clearly doesn't want him playing there though or he wouldn't be signing Lawal. Thompson was average today, second half they squeezed him more and he got caught several times. We need better Thomson is one of our best performers, strong solid and reliable for his position. He was a great signing for the price and would be very difficult and expensive to replace. In my humble opinion

Gets overlooked by some purely because he's not a stand out player, he's just a player who has a job to do, and gets on with it!!!

Not sure what the plan is with Baker & Laurant, sell or keep?. Lawal coming in plus probably one more midfielder and Sol coming through means we will have far too many midfielders Laurent played well today but Baker gets goals For the £500k we want for him would expect another Championship club to come in for him, Portsmouth, Derby, Oxford should be all over that for example I think Johnson will leave too

If it’s a straight choice between Josh Laurent or Lewis Baker then anyone not taking Baker needs sectioning.
Baker gets goals. And when he’s on it (that’s his problem, mind. He blows hot and cold too much) his creativity is superb. And also much better defensively than folk seem to give him credit for? He’ll win tackles.

I’d argue Burger is a more direct replacement for laurent. Physically stronger, can get around the pitch and is better at passing. A bit more nzonzi esque in his tackling. Baker meanwhile is like a traditional 8. Arguably today you’d drop Laurent for him but I don’t think they do the same role. From what I can see we have two midfield variations. And I believe the kids would call it a single or double pivot. One player sitting deep (Thomson/Pearson/Sidibe) and two in front (Laurent/burger/baker) Or a two sitting (burger/laurent/Baker) and an attacking midfielder further forward (Cundle/jun go/DJ) Obviously it’s horses for courses but the blend we could have in midfield is really interesting. I’m still waiting for the game that’s the ultimate physical midfield of burger, baker and Laurent but it just won’t happen. Those 3 should give us real control of a game.

Whilst he retains possession (which will be kid key role in 6) I don’t think he passed forward once yesterday, he also doesn’t have the physicality of a Lawal/Laurent to drive forward with the ball.

Lauren is so laboured in possession, takes an age to decide where to pass it. Not a fan really. Just doesn’t have a particular skill set for me. Can release pressure when he runs out with the ball but rarley any decent pass afterwards.

You're correct, but he's not the type of player to drive forward like this Lawal lad, or Laurant, and he'd probably be the first person to tell you that!!! He's a Whelan type player, nothing flash, just there to do his job!!! That said, I do like the look of that Lawal lad (only going off youtude type vid though, you understand)!!! 👍🏼

His movement for the goal today was class.
Strange player- has bags of ability on the ball but not quite tough enough to mix it in a congested championship midfield. Games can often pass him by.
Yet- how many points has he won us with vital goals.
One of the most likely of the current squad to score. There’s a place and role for him definitely.

I was not very optimistic before the game and was almost certain we would lose, but I said before the game that I only could see goals coming from Manhoef or Baker if we were to score. At least I was spot on for once!

Scores goals from centre midfield. For That reason alone he should be kept. He’s the type of player we’d sell for nothing but buy for decent money.

Always capable of scoring or assisting and in games we’re struggling in he holds the most potential to make the difference in his own… but he has patches of anonymity which is not uncommon for these types of players even at the top level.

If SS wants more goals spread out between all the players, then Baker has to play.

I’ve always seen Baker as a CAM/Number 10/Bojan whatever the fuck you want to call it.
There is no one better at the club striking the ball from outside the area than Baker.

Hardest thing to do in the game is find the back of the net, that's why the strikers get the big bucks. Baker chipping in with goals is invaluable. Must keep for me.

Would I be wrong to suggest he’s like Graham Kavanagh? The only similarities are they took set pieces and could potentially get on the score sheet other than that I don’t think they had any other similar attributes. Kavanagh was a lot more tenacious and consistent.
