I'm confidently expecting it to all go very badly wrong 😆
Thay way either things turned out as expected or I am pleasantly surprised.
Win-Win !

It's generally a S-O-T thing. I think it's a football team supporter thing. The vast majority of fans will experience disappointment for much of their time supporting their team. Some may be lucky enough to enjoy a few fleeting moments of pleasure but for the most part it'll be glum. For the moment I am quite positive BTW. 😁

On paper the signings look good but on paper means nothing.
No one has any justification to be bullish either way.
We have no idea how this will go.

The "it's looking grim" thread summed up so many on this board.
Yet despite many posters telling them time and time again that nothing happens in June, players, agents, staff are on holiday, transfers normally start in July.. They kept up there daily moan that no-one had been signed, coates out, Neil out, Neil's cronies out, worst run club in the country, guaranteed relegation this season.
It is pure embarrassing to read and see how some see the world as black and white, where scfc would say we want that player, that player should immediately jump to sign for Stoke, regardless of their current club contract, or there current club not giving them permission to speak to us, or even their family not wanted to up sticks and move again.. and don't mention if stoke take time to try and negotiate a better price... its all no ambition stoke, no clue Coates, tricky dickue out.
Have patience and enjoy the ride.

I don't think people should be negative as there is alot to be excited about with there being so many changes in personel.
I think the difference more is that some fans are very optimistic and positive whereas others are being alot more cautious and reserving judgement until the season kicks off.
I've not followed all the Stoke news in great depth so please do correct me if I'm wrong with some of the below. But why I'm cautious myself:
- A fair chunk of the new signings haven't proven themselves in England. Doing well in a foreign league doesnt always translate to doing well in the championship.
- It took 3 years of shopping in the yellow sticker reduced section to get the club to this stage where they can finally splash out again. I hope/assume the players are on more sensible contracts now but I suppose past seasons linger in the back of the mind and another potential rebuild gone wrong.
- Last seasons results under Alex Neil were abysmal and got worse as the season progressed with less PPG after getting his own players in compared to before.
- A large number of the backroom staff left in an exodus to go to other roles at different clubs. This is a huge red flag.
- Sidibe aside, it feels like there's not alot to be excited from a youth perspective featuring in the first team.
- The quality of squad in the championship this season is better compared to last in my opinion and thus its going to be more challenging.
I'm excited to see the new players take to the pitch and hopeful of a good campaign. But I'll remain cautious until the players settle into the system and we see what they're capable of as a unit.

Misery loves company as the saying goes. Some of the most miserable and negative posters tend to be on here a lot...mmm

I do tend to be negative this is stoke were talking about after all, but i don't spout negativity on here it's no good for me or anyone else who happens to read it. One thing i will say is when stoke have had good seasons they have usually come out of the blue, even 92/93 when we were nailed on favourites didn't really explode into life until about November and when we got promoted to the prem nobody expected it so i just hope we can have a good season this year and a good few years to come.. just remember though this is stoke....

As Stoke supporters we've had all our easter eggs delivered in 1 transfer window (so far) but it's still not enough for some fans, we wanted to get rid of the deadwood and have a clearout of players that just haven't performed - it's happened, we wanted to see some young talent from abroad - it's happened, we wanted to see our club run better - it's happening, we wanted to hear more from the owners - it's happening. No matter what happens there will always be some so called fans that are never happy. They know who they are on here so my question to them is why? What would they like to happen to change their views? It's been a difficult few years as a Stoke supporter but we might at last be turning a corner to be competitive and push on towards the top half of then table, nothing is for certain but surely everyone can see the club is trying to move in the right direction - well not everyone. Gouranga. Careful... If you dare question any negativity or even worse, pass a view on it, you get accused of all sorts. You get referred to as a 'cu*t' and as 'IT' all for holding an opinion based on negative posts being posted. It seems that abuse such as name calling is all too familar on here and nothing is done about it. I suppose it depends on how 'in' you are with admin or how many stars you have next to your name. Shame, as I know that most wouldn't dare speak to you F2F in the same way they do on here. Like referring to someone as a cu*t, for example. M

Because they're miserable sods whose only comeback for being so negative is to call everyone else 'happy clappers' and act like everyone but them expects promotion. Careful Fozzie, there are posters on here (I will name them happily) who will refer to you as a cu*t if you dare say anything different to what their 'virtual' mates say. They wouldn't say it F2F though. Hopefully, I can ask them to say it one day, once I know. M

I've supported Stoke for 65 years at least. I get excited at the start of each season and am particularly excited at the start of this season. Will I be excited at the end of the season? Who knows? Guess what I will still be supporting Stoke!

Being honest my issue is we have signed around a dozen players for the sum total of about 3 million quid.
I just wonder if any of them will prove to be any good?

My boss, Everton fan, sent me an email today saying that he'd watched the game and that he thinks we'll both struggle this season.
He clearly wasn't aware of the obvious facts, 11 new signings, not much training, not many friendlies, a 16 year old in the side, etc.
I told him that we'll do better than previous seasons, unlike Everton.
Don't let me down AN.

Get to 20 yards of the opposition goal and then have no idea what to do with the ball and then got sucker punched. 6 of the players that started were regulars from last season too so let’s not go ott with the whole new team thing. The saving Grace for me was that the attackers bar Campbell, I’m hoping won’t be starting often.

Some will, probably most won't turn out to be anything special tbh. I guess we have to put our faith in the recruitment team at this point. At least we haven't overspent and wrecked our finances for the next few years.

And that wasn’t much. Your colleague called the game right though, it was like watching two bald blokes fighting over a comb. Thankfully I don’t think you can draw concrete conclusions for us as I think there will be big changes to the team that played. But it also showed a continuation of what we generally saw last season and that was troubling.

Last season most games the crowd would be good-fine in the first 5-10 mins only to be matched with a steaming pile of shit. There needs to be something to be feed off on the pitch.
