Amazed there's so many people defending the assistant referee to be honest.
Ask yourself if you'd have the same opinion if it happened to one of our players.
He threw an elbow out and should be suspended accordingly, likely until the end of the season.

Referees need protecting. Players shouldn’t be speaking to them how they do. Both need a nice long ban.

Immediate yellow cards for any crowding of the referee or dissent. Constantine should be banned until the end of the season. Throwing an elbow out is inexcusable regardless.

Well you would hope "one of our Players" wouldnt be approaching the officials in the way those Scouse/Manc fuckers do. As for Robertson what a fucking girl he is

Robertson is one of the worst offenders and gets away with it week after week. Ever likely he got elbowed.

He threw an elbow out and should be suspended accordingly, likely until the end of the season. What would be your reaction if somebody, unexpectedly, grabbed your shoulder from behind? Would you calmly allow it to stay there and then turn to ask " what's up? " or would you be, perhaps, a bit more defensive in your actions? If the lino turned and looked at Robertson before swinging the elbow then he might well be culpable but the way I saw it he was completely taken by surprise.

The bizarre scene saw Robertson shouting at the linesman after the half-time whistle at Anfield during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal.
Robertson put his hands out towards the official and Hatzidakis seemed to throw out his arm to shrug him off, although footage suggested he may have caught the Scot on the chin with his elbow.
Pity he didnt give the cunt a left hook. Scouse Chav

It's a flinch reaction and he wouldn't need to flinch if he wasn't being approached by a loud mouth who tried to grab him.

Robertson is an absolute prick for it. I honestly think every time a player swears at a ref or surrounds it should be a yellow. It’s getting out of hand. Even back in the 90s when I played Sunday football you could be sent off for swearing at referees. Why this isn't in the professional game I'll never know.

I watch a regular amount of non-league now, 1-200 people there and you can hear every word. I get the odd frustration ie “for fucks sake” especially as I’m a massive swearer but every game the ref gets told to fuck off once or twice. And they generally do nothing. They should tell the players in the dressing room that if you tell me to fuck off it’s a yellow and you do it again then it’s another. That’s the warning. I don’t want rugby calling the refs sir and that shite. But you need a middle ground.

They moan about respect towards referees, and quite rightly so because its completely out of hand, but it's a situation that the governing bodies and officials have created for themselves and one which they could stamp out quite easily, if they grew some bollocks.

Indeed and you’d get push back from players, managers and some fans about the refs ruining games etc but there needs to discipline. It’s got way out of hand.

If the linesman gets a ban of any kind, then it’ll be the final straw of players knowing they have 100% of the power.
He’s gone over shouting and the ref, laid hands on him and then overstated the contact from the linesman shrugging him off.
Robertson should get the ban but instead the ref will probably lose his status for this season and Robertson will be on the pitch next week abusing the next linesman who comes his way.
Don’t care if it’s Liverpool, don’t care if it’s Robertson.
The way all players talk, shout and take the piss out of officials is ridiculous and yes for the most part, they only have themselves to blame.

If we are considering rules from Rugby then the best to curb dissent is to only have a Captain be able to directly address the referee. Anyone else could be warned once, then booked. That just seems like a very easy thing to fix. The premier league introduced this some years ago and it lasted about 2 weeks. I’ve not seen anything that that rule has changed ever since🤷🏻♂️ Bit like the shirt holding penalty new rule that came against Shawcross that seemed to disappear the following week!

Doesn’t have to be the same it just has to be a defined and up held rescission which penalises the offenders If we are considering rules from Rugby then the best to curb dissent is to only have a Captain be able to directly address the referee. Anyone else could be warned once, then booked. That just seems like a very easy thing to fix. Far too simple a solution. It wreaks of common sense which is why it will never catch on. Taking another example from rugby. They should have the ref 'miked up' so that everyone can hear his exolanations for any decisions he makes. I vaguely recall the FA/Ref's Association saying they had consudered this but rejected it because (a) it could antagonise the crowd and (b) the microphone would pick up all the swearing. That response does not hold up to scrutiny and shows an incredible lack of trust in players and spectators alike and does not reflect real life. People are far more willing to accept a decision if the reasoning is explained to them. They may not agree but they will accept. Players will quickly change their behaviour if they know their every word is being broadcadt live. If this is reinforced by a warning then a booking then a red card for persistent bad language then they will soon learn. I reckon everyone will have fallen in line after about 6 games. I struggle to understand why these simple actions have never been implemented. It's as if the FA doesn't think there is a problem. I have only seen the incident once and it was not very clear. 1st impressions were that it was not a short sharp jab of the elbow designed to connect but merely a reflex reaction to try and shrug off someone who had hold of his arm. If it was the latter then I hope the FA have the balls to call it as they see it. If it was the former then by all means ban the lino. If the FA cannot be sure either way then the lino must be given the benefit of the doubt. Either way, I don't think he will be doing it again.

The biggest problem with all of this is the fact that the officials get zero backing from the authorities. Whatever rule gets introduced, as soon as a 'big club' fall foul of it, and kick up a fuss, it gets quietly 'binned'...leaving the officials hung out to dry and the players knowing they can do what they like.
Without refs and liners there is NO FOOTBALL...isn't t about time these oiks realised that?
