Yes he did, first division under Durban, scored well into the teens in a struggling side Also scored our last top flight hat trick away from home Edit: he scored 16 that season 35 in 101 Stoke games, nearly all in top flight Outstanding really but he was thoroughly disliked by many Couldn't understand it as a young kid at the time Was rumoured to be a wife beater too later in his career. I guess that at least made him unpopular. At least I remember I changed my view on him after I heard that. Wasn't she the one out of Men behaving badly ?

Wasn't she the one out of Men behaving badly ? Yeah definitely it was her - she was a proper hottie but got a few black eyes from Chapman.

Chapman got absolutely slaughtered and mocked by the Stoke fans Fools So it was a common viewpoint then! Interesting. My Dad is still adamant he wasn’t very good 🤣🤣 I’m depressed Bayern, you have really burst my bubble, I always pictured you as the semi retired small business owner who smoked a pipe and travelled around in a carefully owned Rover Stirling and talked like Nigel Johnson ? But if your Dad can remember Chapman and you can’t, then that makes me older than you ! Fuck

I was behind the goal in The Boothen for the penalty shoot out v Man City. Chapman took one and it almost hit the corner flag. We lost.

Lee Chapman scored 16 goals in the league for Leeds when they won the league title and later Charity Shield. At Notts Forest he won the League Cup and Full Members Cup. Later he was one of those who had his phone hacked. At Stoke he was slagged off by supporters and so was Garth Crooks who won a few FA Cups and UEFA Cup at Spurs. For some reason it continued with Steve Bould who won a few things as well. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Chapman

What was the feeling around Chapman at the time? Because my Dad was a pro around the same time and he won’t say a good word about Chapman and it makes me laugh because my Dad is totally laid back and doesn’t hold grudges etc so his view is what he thinks. He thought he was an absolutely shit footballer. And he had a million times better career than my Dad and that’s why it makes me laugh even more that he’s so adamant at how shit he was. Well he was pretty crap as a general footballer. Not good control or anything. But he had the heart of a lion and generally got himself hurt most games trying to win headers and go in where it hurts. So he scored a lot of his goals just by busting a gut getting on the end of crosses, as I remember. But indeed probably one of the lowest skilled footballers to make it in the First Division. I just remember that the ball used to bounce off him, but he always seemed to get into dangerous areas and cause a bit chaos with defenders. He wasn't popular though. Stoke fans moaned and groaned at him until he left. I think Stoke fans never really got over John Ritchie tbh. They always wanted another one like him and weren't very welcoming towards anyone who didn't seem to hit that level. I'm not sure a Chapman type would even work in the modern game. Liam Delap is the closest Ive seen to him, with his chaotic approach and rawness. That will change with Delap and he will develop other aspects to his game, but Chapman didn't really need to adapt in the era he was playing. He could be successful in the way he was.

Peter Griffiths missed the sudden death stage stage one Think they missed the next one after Chapman My third game I think We got 2 late goals. Ray Evans made it 2-2 I think

Wasn't she the one out of Men behaving badly ? Lesley Ash Chapman was quite aggressive. The footballer, not the Beatles shooting chap although he obviously had issues. Lowe doesn't have that but was always looking for space to make himself available but not so easy in the Champ. Good to see him doing well though and a good loan all round

Chapman was the only one to miss. One of my fondest memories was him being stretchered off playing for Wednesday at Hillsborough and us singing: "Goodbye Chapman, Goodbye, We'll see you again, fuck off 'til then, Goodbye Chapman, Goodbye.
