Bournemouth spending £27m on a player I've never heard of, yet Stoke can't afford to pay a player we've had on loan since August. How the fuck has it come to this? Seriously, what do the likes of John Coates seriously think about where the club is right now. Fucking Bournemouth are lightyears ahead of us right now, yet people still lick the boards arses Look at Brighton! Similar size club to Stoke , Alexis MacCallister on the pitch , Billy Gilmour on the bench Billy Gilmour is streets ahead of any Stoke player and yet plays league cup / FA cup, on the bench for the prem ,for Brighton. We are now so far behind even medium sized teams, that have got their recruitment right,it's mind blowing. We are not even in the same galaxy as Brighton, never mind on the same planet . And at a guess , Brighton will probably win nothing. I'm so impressed by Tony Bloom and Brighton, throw in what he's done with Union SG in Belgium too and it just shows how backwards our owners are. The ironic thing being that both made their money from the gambling industry, yet it's the punter Tony Bloom who is in another galaxy when it comes to running (multiple) football clubs than those who take the bets.

Their average attendance is 9,500?????? what's your point? Not my original point but I think the point is that our recruitment has put the Stoke manager ,in such a big hole . A competent championship manager like AN is probably not going to be up to the job We need a miracle worker

First goal, too loose in midfield allowed them to work the ball and then spotted but didn’t pick up the scorer. Second, overplayed in midfield (schoolboy error for a holding midfielder) and didn’t recover. Third goal didn’t anticipate and again was 5 metres off the player delivering the cross. One game, three times not doing the CDM basics, he is not a CDM Because he wasn't playing as a CDM he was playing as a box to box midfielder with a brief to drive the team forward. If anything, it seemed like Laurent was hung out to dry in a pseudo No 10 role where he was out of his depth. He would have been better alongside Thompson, but Baker was given that box-to-box role instead for which he returned just two lame shots at goal. Baker just seems undroppable for some reason, maybe just because he's captain because his performance certainly don't warrant it.

He's not really out of his depth as an AM either he played the majority of the season there at Reading last season. He was not adjudged to have had as successful a season as the previous one where he played mainly as a DM and won their player of the season. He's also played games professionally at CB so he's extrememly versatile and defensively aware and has all the tools to be an excellent DM at this level.

I can't believe it's the 16th January and we've done the square root of FA in terms of transfer business. We've sold a 2nd choice keeper to a Belgian team and a loan player has left. Where is the urgency to do some business? It's so eerily quiet it's unreal. I cant believe supporters haven't realised yet that we are maxed out re FFP , we can't buy any players this window without selling first 100% the reality of where we are currently. The Manager (and Club) either wait and hope for a Souttar or Tymom windfall to allow a longer term signing or two or We do what we have been doing for the last few years in taking loans and free transfers in the hope it works and repeatedly it has not. We are struggling as a club/team at the moment and relegation is getting closer than we had hoped but we cannot keep making the same mistakes in the transfer market. What I think I am saying is we need to sell BEFORE we can really sign a player(s) to hopefully take us forward. A little patience these next 2-3 weeks has to be understood and accepted. Then fingers crossed that our latest Manager and recruitment gets it right for a change.

So when has Laurent made these defensive howlers playing as a DM? Fucked up at the weekend trying to do too much which he would be instructed not to as a DM. His standout season at Reading was as a DM when he won their player of the season. He’s even played professionally at CB so I’d say your opinion is wrong. It might not be what he wants to do but it’s his best position rather like Etebo who never played there for Stoke. One game, three times not doing the CDM basics, he is not a CDM Just re-watched the highlights, I think you're right with him being disappointed with his defensive errors directly leading to goals. However, his teammates did not help him at all. First one, we didn't stop the cross, Souttar and Jags didn't bail him out by engaging, Souttar noticed him drifting in but couldn't react in time. The lad had an overload of two players in midfield. Second one Jags let the player run into the box and didn't engage with him at all. Yes you should stop the problem at source, ie not giving the ball away but the reaction to it was poor. Third, Fox, Souttar and Laurent will be dissapointed. Switch off in the last few minutes of the game and it's game over.

BREAKING: DERBY AND BIRMINGHAM JOIN HUGILL RACE Derby County, Birmingham City and Rotherham have joined Reading in the hunt to sign Norwich City striker Jordan Hugill, sources have told FOOTBALL INSIDER. The former West Ham man, 30, is well down the pecking order at the Canaries and they are open to January offers as he is out of contract in the summer.
Stoke not mentioned in the Hugill hunt.
So no idea who we're looking for on our apparently measly budget.

JC has had fair(recruitment) and unfair criticism(not investing), this post being one of them. Bournemouth can spend money on players because they got promoted and are reaping the rewards of the premier league riches! If they didn't make it in the first 3 years then my bet is that they would have been seriously in trouble with finances.

For all 3 of those mistakes he was in the position of defensive midfielder (box to box by definition is a mix of DM and AM) and in each occasion his defending was poor. A CDM would have recognised each situation. It’s far from clear he can defend or link up play with his passing. Like Baker he struggles with positional awareness, both are freer players but neither is close to a CDM

Are our players really that shit (serious question) surely to god a manager worth is salt gets them doing better than the shit were seen at present. I don’t know anymore, it seems like a continual cycle of cock ups and dog shit, at some point these players need to look in the mirror and ask are they giving there all. Yes they are that shit. League one keeper, an aging left back that's hit and miss, no right back, hit and miss left wingback, midfield are all the same nothing players, strikers that can't score and no wingers. It's not a recipe for positive results.

Still no Stoke link, I'm extremely surprised. Got to think the list of -available for loan -relatively experienced -that type of player who can hold the ball up and complement any one of the other three - see us as their best bet in our current state, even though other potentially more attractive teams will be in ...strikers will be quite short. So, if not Hugill, who? Especially as he's being hawked around and has done well for Neil previously. He's a fairly unattractive sticking plaster, but we need something Assume we've got a list of "better" options, but I'd love to know who was on it, given we're supposedly only in for loans unless Souttar goes. Maybe we think it's more likely than not Souttar will go, which will open up more attractive options. But, if he doesn't, you'd think we'd really struggle yo bring in anyone who ticks the boxes

Every other club in this league has to deal with FFP too, and most didn't have the luxury of 3 years of parachute payments to help.

You would think that in our current situation, close to relegation places, we might not be a very attractive proposition for some players. I am not sure some would fancy potentially be playing league one football next season.

Wait until the last 48 hours of the window, rush through a sale of Souttar for probably less than he's worth, then get Stewart in for a massively inflated price. Jesus wept.

Stewart has scored 9 in 12 this season to be fair, the kind of strike rate we haven't seen at Stoke for 20 years.
