He’d be perfect providing his legs haven’t gone. Wood’s another one however I think he’s still getting some game-time at Newcastle. Are they on free transfers? And in Woods case happy with a 75% pay cut? Please stop asking sensible questions, it'll spoil the thread.

Burnley aren’t big payers. Granted Wood’s unrealistic as he was a sub today but I’m sure there’s clubs who loan there players to get games.

Crossley, Taggart and Akinbiyi turned the worst side in the league into one of the hardest teams to beat and not one of them were world beaters. Just good experienced pros who new what it took to win games of football. What we’d give for three similar players this window. Pulis turned them into the hardest side to beat Over time. The three players mentioned had an instant impact with results improving from their first game.

The new signings completely transformed the side but they were only there because of the manager.

No matter who we get in or ship out won’t make a jot of difference until the club recognises the real issue. The manager is given way too much power at Stoke. It’s as simple as that. Giving that much responsibility to a guy who coaches footballers will never work Neil may have seen that as a bonus, I very much doubt he does now already

They would want a fee, he's been on pl wages Lower end pl wages but he would still have to take a pay cut With no FFP it's a perfectly reasonable suggestion As it is it's a non starter We are in free transfer market and in January there probably aren't any of interest As such it's loans out loans in If we sell Souttar then Barnes becomes feasible Woods would still be on far too much money unless Newcastle subsidised it

So you think there’s nowt up with the structure at the club then? I've heard the arguments Utterly unconvinced by DoF for Stoke City Unfortunately there’s nothing unique about Stoke City except in the eyes of it’s fans. It’s just another football club like many others. As explained it’s not about a DoF or not having one. It’s having a structure that steers the club based on a consistent club culture with consistent footballing philosophy which can be tweaked by replacing individuals without chucking everything out of the window and starting a new project from scratch. This is something that will happen endlessly with the Messiah manager model especially when the people choosing the manager have no football beliefs and philosophies that they’re willing to stick to.

It’s not the only problem at all. As has always been said no player is bigger than the club. We’ll no manager is either, yet every time we employ one we surrender the whole club to their whims.

Let's get a DoF in like Everton So you think there’s nowt up with the structure at the club then? Wonder how many DOF there are out there that are good. Looking over the weekend at YouTube clips of fans, social media etc let's look at who's fans are looking for a restructure of their club. Liverpool, Everton, spurs, Chelsea, west ham, Leicester, Southampton until this week, Leeds. That's just the prem. Sit in protests, death threats. Then you could probably say about 80% of the championship are not happy with their club and how it's run. I don't like the way football is going, fast. If it was possible to do, I'd have it where whatever manager you start the season with, you can't change it until at the end. That would stop the weekly moaning of nearly every club demanding 10 Managers a season like it's voting someone out of a reality show, the public have voted. I remember going stoke in the 80's and win, lose or draw, you went home, played footy the next day and pretended be a player and that was it. Of course there's always been ups and downs with all clubs, but everything is over thought nowadays by fans. Everything is one game disaster. I just keep thinking of the bigger picture of the end of the season, why AN said yes, because FFP is clearing up, players out of contract, big red build and hopefully something good to look forward to.

Everton are proof that it’s not a magic formula but they’re also an example of how not to do it - they don’t seem to have an identity in terms of the managers they recruit or the signings they make, like us. The way to do it is to have an ethos in place and recruit managers who fit that.

Thompson was better second half, Laurent too, but boy first half they were both beyond awful. For all 3 goals, Laurent was 5 years off the player making the decisive move

And whose fault is that then? It’s the fault of the owners. I’m not sure why you’d expect them to have any footballing principles, they know no more about the game than any other fan. All they want is success, that’s why they lurch around all over the place from one snake oil salesman to the next. A club needs a consistent culture and philosophy which can be tweaked by replacing individuals whilst retaining that consistency of thinking which can be adapted as the game evolves as it does quite slowly across the board. Who’d have thought you could go from being an awfully slow low energy passing team to a high energy direct team at the flick of a switch. The structure of the club is far too simplistic and is being steered by people who have no football beliefs or experience they need to employ people with them and stick with that culture and philosophy whilst any of the personnel may be changed they are recruited to the philosophy not bring their own with them.

It was one of the first thing the Shanahans did with Vale, they got a football person in to assist them. Vale are streets ahead of us in terms of their structures and the feel around the club. Newbie owners got it spot on. Yet ours couldn’t even take the hint with a relegation that they needed to change. It’s exhausting.
