To be honest it’d be nice just to have players that actually suit the system that the manager wants to play too. Right now it feels like jack of all trades ace of none. We need to have a style of play, buy players that suit it and stick to it. Neil seems hell bent on wanting two holding midfielders, despite our squad probably being more suited to having just one. So if someone like Pearson came in then at least he can play alongside Thompson, Laurent, or Baker (the latter of who I think, if he has to play in defensive midfield, operates better as a sole operator than alongside somebody). If we are relying on Thompson to be a regular starter between now and the end of the season we are going to struggle.

I beg to differ on Baker. He looked best playing deep alongside Allen. He needs someone who can cover his late runs to the edge of the box. People questioned at the time if he would look as good without Allen and this season we have the answer.

We can't spend a penny re FFP as such they can't 'back him' If we want to buy players we have to sell If we don't want to sell then loans out loans in (or free transfers which are rare in January) are the only options Why anyone is still thinking that the board should be splashing the cash atm is astonishing FFP is killing us If that’s the case you have to question what was his motivation for leaving a bigger club that were higher in the table. I bet we’re not the only ones having regrets about him joining if he’s been given false promises. Next summer when the shackles are off and he has complete control. I think he felt we had enough for him to keep the job until then (hence the you don't know what's under the bonnet quote) but the question is will he still be here?

I agree with last, they either back him, get a turnaround of fortune, or get rid with still time on the window to wheel & deal, there can absolutely be no half measures this time.. We can't spend a penny re FFP as such they can't 'back him' If we want to buy players we have to sell If we don't want to sell then loans out loans in (or free transfers which are rare in January) are the only options Why anyone is still thinking that the board should be splashing the cash atm is astonishing FFP is killing us You are right we need to sell before we can buy but if we can't sell we have to go for frees and loans. If we don't make significant changes we are going down - this squad under this manager is relegation fodder. I'm not one for sacking managers at the first opportunity or making wholesale changes in January but in this case either is preferable to just tweaking and hoping for the best. There are no signs of us improving and the squad don't look like they are committed to what the manager is doing and the manager doesn't look like he trusts the squad. One or the other has to change - and quickly.

We need young versions of Crossley, Taggart and Fuller.
That should help.

We need young versions of Crossley, Taggart and Fuller. That should help. Crossley, Taggart and Akinbiyi turned the worst side in the league into one of the hardest teams to beat and not one of them were world beaters. Just good experienced pros who new what it took to win games of football. What we’d give for three similar players this window.

Thompson was better second half, Laurent too, but boy first half they were both beyond awful.

His interviews in the first couple of weeks after his appointment were very clear that he fully understood our situation in relation to FFP.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/match-reports/sheffield-united-stoke-live-stream-8030638Sanctioned Joe Bursik exit to Club Brugge - do you have a goalkeeper lined up to bring in?Neil: We'll have to wait and see between now and the end of the window. There are a lot of moving parts at the moment, a lot of dynamics that are in play. What I don't want to do is say something and further down the line it doesn't come to fruition and people come back to it. We'll wait and see. But clearly you want to bring in a couple sooner rather than later?Neil: We've got work to do behind the scenes so we've got a lot to think about. That is a worry. What if bonham gets injured.

Couple that with Brown it is a recipe for relegation

Chelsea close to signing Mudryk for £60m. 22 year old. Wikipedia is saying he's played less than 30 times for Shakhtar.
Ornstein (I think) said the other day Arsenal's board are a bit pissed off - along with other Prem clubs - that Chelsea have got fingers in everyone's pie.

And if we ring them up and say "He's not playing a minute of football here" they'll defo take him back. It's just that there'll be repercussions like not being allowed to loan from them anymore.

If we get 4 new players in what positions do you think they will fill? I am guessing one will be a number 1 goalkeeper.

I agree but with AN going on about wingers and with the loss of a striker and keeper I can't see what else it would be, maybe it'll change as the window goes on but I can see it being lower down on the list. Maybe we'll get lucky and someone will come in for one of the midfield and force his hand a little.
