The players did nothing after that Tottenham match at the station mate they just stood and took the abuse outside of Stoke station It’s amazing how these stories start Jack Butland apologised to me and my little one at Euston station and at stoke station high fived my boy and said “I hope we haven’t completely ruined your day”. Jack Butland was a gem of a bloke who went through a terrible spell of form at a time when we needed him the most. He cared though for sure. Stop telling the truth mate bayern says he didn't give a shit.

He was shocking in the relegation season mate I'm not saying anything against that, I don't think it was down to not caring though I think he was just shite.

His natural form was being useless. His form or playing ability isn’t really relevant when questioning his commitment or care for our club. His form was poor and he had numerous bad games where he cost us points. Equally, when Jones came in he saved us from several drubbings where without those draws we may well have ended up being relegated again.

I know he's a legend but what was Shawcross doing as club captain at that time? He should have rallied the senior pros, faced up to the wasters and confronted Hughes about the lack of discipline. I'm sorry but that's a failure of leadership for me.

Peter Crouch article Somewhat non-surprisingly, it doesn't mention anything about Stoke, despite playing for us for considerably longer than for anyone else by far.

From the comments section: ‘Scored one of the best goals ever imho, no idea who he was playing for or who it was against but he received a crossfield pass over on the right wing which he took on his chest then volleyed into the goal, the ball never touching the ground. One of the best.’

No idea why folk seem to get so worked up about ex-players answering questions in interviews.

There isn't a pub team or Sunday league team in the land that I imagine wouldn't have kicked the shit out of Berahino if he'd pulled that stunt.

He is correct. He should have done more. If there was such a player who made his intentions to “down tools” public then that player should have been exposed and eliminated from the squad. One or more rotten apples and a general apathy from the big names make sense looking back. The whole club has subsequently been allowed to fester due to abysmal cultural and professional failings. He is not the only one to blame.

He said on the Radio Stoke pod that the old guard failed to do enough to integrate the Johnny (foreigner) Come-Latelys

Have always felt....what were the senior pros doing when all this was going on.. I would add shawcross to the list, senior pro, club captain, should of sorted a few out in the dressing room.. Sounds like the wasters had free rein to destroy the dressing room with very little to stop them. Management not interested. Senior pros sat quietly in the corner. Ryan did his level best mate, believe me. Won't divulge the stories he's told me, but he said it was an impossible task as some simply wouldn't listen to anyone and were toxic around the place

An honest comment from an honest player who always gave his best. There's plenty of people who let us down, but he wasn't among them, beats me why there are people on here have it in for him. Jealous or just bitter? Sad really. He always thought he was too big for Stoke. Did he? He played for other clubs similar to us in size throughout his career quite regularly

I never got the impression his heart was really in the club, in the way Ryan, Johnny W, Glenn, and Rory’s were
Dont get me wrong, he increased our profile and scored some important goals for us
Ive just never held him in the same esteem as some others do

He played for other clubs similar to us in size throughout his career quite regularly As said above, I don’t personally think his heart was ever really in it. We paid his wages and he got decent game time. Just my opinion like, and I didn’t particularly like him as a player either so probably bias.

I was reading Micah Richards' new book and he describes Mark Hughes as hating conflict and trying to avoid it. That matches some of the stories that I have heard about his time at both Manchester City and Stoke. Discipline fell apart under his watch.
However, the senior players all failed in their collective responsibility as well. Shawcross, Johnson, Crouch, Adam, and others should have done their part to manage the dressing room better.
Ultimately, that last year in the Premier League was an absolute s**t show which could have easily have been avoided had Hughes been sacked in the summer (or had we not replaced him with Paul bloody Lambert).

I heard a story about Crouch's daily commuting by train from London. Hughes had given him dispensation to arrive later to morning training so he didn’t have to get an early train from Euston, but when Lambert arrived, with his approach to try and install some discipline in the club, he told all players they must be at Clayton Wood at 9 am prompt no exceptions. This pissed off Crouch because it meant he had to be up at O'Crack Sparrow in order to catch an early train.
