All these things ground us in our shared history. Amazing.

Great words from him just now. Indeed, and what a delivery. It looked like he might lose it a couple of times, and who would blame him? Not just bereft of his mother but of an internationally respected and admired persona, and one of the few constants in an ever more rapidly changing world. And what an inevitably sad way to begin the only role you'd ever be allowed to have, and having had to wait so long to assume it. Charles has been much maligned and misunderstood over the years, perhaps not always unjustly, but his position on topics such as the environment, once thought "quirky" appear to be quite prescient now. He's changed a lot since the big-nosed young man who drove past without waving while on his way to open Northwood Stadium back in the '70s. God save the king.

Queen Mother? King Mother surely! You are right - old habits die hard! Each new year it takes me about 2 months to start putting the correct date by my signature so you can't expect me to immediately cope with a change of title which has had 70 years to be imprinted on my brain! Well no, it appears Iβm actually wrong. If they had still been married Diana would have been Queen Mother NOT King Mother. See Davefβs intervention above.

If βhomeβ is GB, then I think we should adopt the same attitude and allow coins, notes and stamps to be replaced by natural wastage and not waste money with needless, pointless changes. When I was a boy in the 50s most coinage was previous monarchs, you even saw the occasional Victorian coin. The biggest expense was decimalisation . I expect the coinage will be gradually changed as old coinage is worn out and withdrawn. Bank notes only started to have the monarch on in 1960 so it is a relatively modern concept. They are replaced quite quickly although the idea of new plastic notes is to save expense due to them lasting longer, (2.5 times longer). Notes are replaced quite frequently in the past with the design changing and different people on the reverse. Β£5 has had Stephenson, Fry, and Churchill. Personally I think having a politician is a mistake, too divisive. It didn't matter whose head was on the penny's they still made your shorts fall down and those 3d pieces were like lead weights. Victoria, George the 5th or Elizabeth all valid currency. I think they should just let them phase out of circulation as she would say "Keep Calm and Carry On"

You don't hear Liege Lord uttered that often in relation to the monarch. Googled it, 'feudal lord'.

I get some events management stuff dumped on me periodically at work as we have links with the county Lord Lieutenant and after the Queen died were asked to support the Proclamation event today so alot of work pulling the detail together and managing the various strands of staging and stewarding. That said, I was proud to be a part of it today and went smoothly and I too heard the liege lord bit ! Not a bad day all in all

"Show me an example of cognitive dissonance" I'm sure PP you know enough about data science to realise that chart doesn't prove any PoV. All the data pre-Sept was data collected based on a hypothetical question and based on the experience at that time. The current data is based on actual performance in the role post the death of HMQ. Regardless of any views on the monarchy that data wouldn't pass any scientific scrutiny. Its basically two distinct data sets.

*Note the date, not long after Covid Lockdowns became all the rage in the western world.

Truss told him he can't go to COP. That's gotta hurt after all he's done for environmental issues. She's obviously going to row back on our commitments. Remember Boris big fanfare less than a year ago? www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-63105522

Truss told him he can't go to COP. Good. It was okay for the Queen last year to speak, This is about Truss dismantling the commitments the UK has already made to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy and to boost Rees Mogg's investment in Somerset Capital and the like.
