If going for a short stay, 4 or 5 nights I always book flights and hotel separately. Saved a fortune in the past. Just looking at Ibiza old town for 5 nights end of August I don't think I've been on a package holiday since about 2008, nothing wrong with it, I just don't like spending more than a few days in one place.

There are so many destinations to explore all over Europe

Granted when you have a young kid in tow the options do diminish somewhat. Whatever happens, don’t think about the cost and have a great time with them👍🏻

Anybody after somewhere different Chicago from Manchester for 6 nights, room and flight can be had for a grand at the end of September. Hotel's in River North which is a great neighborhood, right on the river and walk across into the loop etc.
Trying to talk mar lady into it but she's fretting about the jet lag .
Pissed me off because the Bears and Blackhawks are at home the week I want to go.
Is there anyone on here I could board her with whilst I go on my own 🙄

Affects people differently I guess.

Yep, that's mine in a few weeks time around Italy, I've done some of Spain by train as well. Also looking at doing different parts of Germany next year by train, the sleeper trains are really ramping up on the continent now, good to see.

I was there in April, went from Manchester via Dublin on Aer Lingus and cleared American immigration in Dublin, through in 10 minutes in Dublin and landing in Chicago as a domestic passenger. River north is a bit of walk down into the centre isn't it ? I stayed just north of the river off New Orleans street, would definitely go back there. My next door neighbour is there now on business, she was watching the cubs play at Wrigley field a couple of days ago.

It's so easy and the trains are so reasonably priced and reliable. When we left Cologne after the Duisburg friendly the train couldn't go anywhere due to a tree on the track, this was at about 1 am, we thought we'd definitely miss our flight but within half an hour it was sorted. If it was the UK we'd have probably been there most of the night. We later did Budapest/Bratislava/Vienna/Krakow/Prague in less than 2 weeks and it didn't feel at all rushed, sleeper from Bratislava to Krakow.

I wanted to go Friday to Thursday with Aer Lingus for precisely the reason you mentioned but I can't go until Saturday and it's all through IAG group then flying Manchester - Heathrow - O'Hare. I don't mind the walk and I'd rather stop out of the centre, plus you're close to the river and everything going on down there. Fantastic city, I much prefer it to NYC. Only Vancouver has matched it for me so far. To be honest I think this year is out but I want to do Austin, Santa Fe and Denver next year. If anybody has any tips on those areas I'd appreciate them. There's a direct flight from Manchester to Houston now so that mid west area is a little easier to get to.

I'm off to Brisbane tomorrow used skyscanner for flights and airbnb for accommodation. Its an extended visit to see our first grandchild but it was extortionate to fund, flights were 3x previously fares I'd seen 2 years or so ago. I haven't used a "travel agent" or package holiday for a long time well over a decade I think they're a rip off. I've saved money over the years booking independently and only ever had issues during covid with one booking agent for a flight cancellation which I won't ever use again. I tend to email hotels directly and negotiate the cost and I've even phoned hotels in Thailand etc to get a deal playing one off against another to get discounts.

Fancy the stampede but I imagine prices are ridiculous for accommodation.

I've been to Denver - it's alright if you've got a car and can go into the mountains and the town of Boulder. Other than that it's just a really nice city but not an awful lot to do.

Affects people differently I guess. Ditto - flying East always screws me up too for 36 hours. First night is always a struggle in SE Asia or similar return flight is usually fine and I'm normally in the office catching up on work the morning after landing as if I've not been anywhere (although I don't tend to tell clients I'm back until a couple of days later!). The reverse is normally true going West to the USA or Caribbean, I'm fine on the way out but the return usually throws my body clock out of the window!

Not as exotic as some but we're off to France today so wont be at footy til the Watford game. Kids just been to Menorca for a week with grandparents and now we're heading to west coast, Royan area so probably 60-90 mins south of La Rochelle. Went to that coast every year pre-fucking-Covid and first time back for us as went America last year. Could be last one driving as girls getting big now so thinking flights and somewhere all-inclusive might work for us next year, Mrs Telford just got a fab new job ( well hard bloody work but a proper payrise) so if numbers add up we'll book up and soon. Dover tonight, stop in Le Mans on Fri then Royan Saturday for 8 nights then up to Paris for some Disney and back Saturday 12th. Car needed a new clutch earlier in week and whilst I was cursing the expense, rather it was changed then than tanking out on me on a French motorway. And got a new toll tag too as battery on old one was going ( the wonderfully named "Bip And Go" system!)which has always saved a bit of time at the toll booths . Have a good time wherever you are all going
