Let's hope that, if there is a problem with subsidence, we have 100% bombproof insurance cover. I am old enough to remember the debacle when the roof blew off the Butler Street stand, I could not cope with a repeat of that unhappy time in our history! This time around we’ve very little that’s worth selling to pay for it

Would be awesome to get an insurance payout and build a proper stadium with a bit of character. The shiteness of the stadium is holding the club back

After lots of subsidence near the Gordon banks statue, we’ve got to be worried about the stadium at this point surely. The pets at home warehouse on the same estate is unused in one half due to subsidence and are relocating to Stafford in 6 months because of it. At some point the stadium will have subsidence damage, no question about it, I’m surprised the club are investing in the ground so heavily because we will have to move at some point due to the nature of the ground beneath it (Old mines and pits)! Can anyone who knows there stuff about structures and safety let me know if it’s a concern? Do you have any links to reports of this subsidence around the GB statue or elsewhere?

A bit of character like Yeovil town's old ground, 8' slope across the pitch.

The director, Richard Smith is a civil/structural engineer. He used to work for Halcrow consulting engineers in Stockport. Why don't you ask him? He may be the only one who has access to the original design drawings. Having said that, there must have been a few Stokies involved in the original foundation works during construction. Failing that, the explanation earlier re. piled foundations and grouting of mineshafts is a more likely scenario. The majority of the development around the ground seems to be portal frame sheds which, typically, are lightly loaded and normally use quite shallow foundations. Having said that, you would expect the design to reflect the subsoil conditions so you would not expect subsidence under any building if they have got the design/construction right.

there’s a better and bigger site ready on city road! which site do you mean? i'm just intrigued, i'm not expecting it to happen. from the centre of stoke walk straight through church street, over the A500 under the railway bridge and it’s there. Under a 10 min walk from the town centre and about 8 from the train station.

I remember an old Roy of the Rovers storyline when a massive sinkhole opened up on the pitch.
Might be a good thing if a few of our players dropped into it. (I'm joking before anyone starts)

No longer living in the city can I ask. Have they built on the Victoria site yet?
Last time I looked it was still a derelict weed covered open space. A good old fashioned ground in town is sadly just nostalgia.

The bet365 stadium is soul-less and some home fans find it logistically easier going to away matches. It’s good (in a warehouse/distribution sense) in having some space around it and good access links with A50/A500/A34 and M6 but in terms of public transport links it’s cack! I suppose the same could be said for other kit builds like Derby, Middlesbrough, Brighton, Huddersfield etc etc Does anyone know of any modern builds which DO have links to city centre/public transport AND a bit of character …… I can’t think of any??

I've read everything on this board now Did the Gordon Banks statue disappear down an old mine shaft, or was there very minimal, localised ground movement?

No disrespect intended to the OP, but at this tick of the clock, I really couldn't give a shit if it sunk into the ground and was never seen again.
Although knowing our luck if it did, they'd rebuild it to be exactly the same as it is now...

I've always thought that this ground wasn't for us, ever since Sir Stan missed that penalty.

A bit of character like Yeovil town's old ground, 8' slope across the pitch. There was a pitch in Penkhull 1960s,you needed a ladder to get from one side of the pitch to the other.😋

Spurs new ground but it’s kind of cheating, it’s basically the site of the old ground. But the design is iconic. It’s what the emirates wishes it was.
