Signing players to fit the style of play is the most basic element of football recruitment. So why do we want Flint?

Fuckin love Flint me.
Never heard of him (and he reciprocates, i'm sure).
We definately need some horrible fuckers.
Think Vinny (Overson).
Could look a man to death, or at least make him shit himself a little bit.
Smitthy. "It's just a flesh wound".
Bollocks to kicking the ball around the back. Kick the fucking forward around the back, boot the ball in the direction you are facing.
Rule number one of "fright club".

Not what I expected as our first signing of the window but if he's played in a back 4 alongside Souts i'm all for it as I hate 5 at the back.
Potentially could help Souttar's development in regard to scoring more goals from set pieces?
Clutching at straws but at least he's not a midget like Chester.

Reading what the Cardiff fans have got to say about him doesn't exactly fill me with optimism about the guy as a player. What an exciting way to open our dealings this summer.. not!! Where are you reading this? Seems to be held in high esteem from what I’m reading - www.ccmb.co.uk/showthread.php?453238-Flint-released&highlight=FlintHas limitations when it comes to passing but aside from that they all seem to rate him quite highly and are sorry to see him leaving. Glad I’ve taken the time to actually browse the Cardiff forums and read their opinions myself. Because a few posters on here who have “mates that are Cardiff fans” seem to have completely different views from those who actually actively post on their fan forums. Best of luck to the guy if he signs and hopefully he’s successful. I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve watched him in the red and white myself.

As much as we try, I don't think it's realistic to expect fans not to comment on the track record of a soon-to-be 33yo with 400 league games. He is what he is at this stage. And, to be fair, as a meat-and-two-veg centre-half, he may be okay. But it's just asking where a meat-and-two-veg centre-back, with well-defined strengths and weaknessnes, would fit into things here, given what we have seemingly aimed to be over the last 2 seasons There’s no discussion though is there FM Words like he’s shit etc serve no purpose and isn’t a discussion Odimwingie was slaughtered but look how that turned out so just a little patience wouldn’t go a miss and give the lad a chance …..he’s 8 years younger than Jagielka A 40-year old Jagielka is still better than Flint. Jags would be my first backup to Souttar, but we only have him till the end of December. In that sense, taking Flint now would make sense to take on the backup role when Jags leaves. But what if Jags is performing really well and we want to extend him till the end of the season? Flint would be sat on his arse earning easy money. I don’t think Flint is terrible. I thought he was brilliant in his last season at Bristol City and I think he’d be very good foil to Souttar in a back four, but we don’t have decent fullbacks to make that work. We have Josh who we know is a good LWB so MON just needs to commit to a back three and look for a left-sided CD and RWB. I just don’t think Flint would work left or right in a three-man defence.

He's going to win his headers and make his blocks But the change from playing in a team that doesn't value possession at all (one of the lowest in the league), and presumably sat pretty deep in a bit of an old-fashioned way, to a team that has (until now) tried to play it out from the back is still going to be an issue, you'd think. Batth never really looked at home, and neither did the team with him there. Suppose it all depends how we intend to set up next year, and how much he'll be used. On paper, he'd maybe be no.4 behind a fit Souttar, Jagielka and Wilmot in any back 4 pecking order? (But would he have come if that was the case, who knows?. We'll never know how many other options he had) Guess what football managers lie to players all the time to get them to sign.
