Better option than Chester so at least that's a positive along with a one year deal we really need to take advantage of his set piece threat along with souttar don't think many teams would welcome coming up against them two in an attacking set piece scenario

What a load of nonsense.
The exact type of signing we shouldn’t be making

Another stumbling block for our promising centre halves path into the first team, great. The last position we should be signing any player for.

What would you be saying if Taylor or Forrester weren’t up to it and we signed no other centre half this summer? It would be O’Neill’s fault right? we’d be stuck with them till Jan, makes perfect sense to have him in the building for a year, if Forrester and Taylor come Good then great, if not, flints perfect for a year. Also puts less pressure on souttars come back,

As I keep saying Forrester and Taylor will be going out on loan again to gain more valuable experience If that's the case then I'd expect another centre half to come in then, probably on loan wouldn't you? Especially if we persist with 3 at the back. Souttar (returning from a long lay off) Jags (40 and could fall off a cliff any day now) Flint (32 and crap) Wilmot (manager clearly doesn't trust him centrally)

good solid signing, O'Neill hasn't got time to take gambles on the youngsters at the moment who are waiting to come through. If we start making mistakes and errors, fans will be straight on his back. so good signing imo

As I keep saying Forrester and Taylor will be going out on loan again to gain more valuable experience They shouldn't be going out on loan, they've proved they can do it out on loan. A loan In league 1 would help Taylor but in forresters case he doesn't need it, the same way he should have been given game time last season over thb as there's totally no point developing a centre half for a PL side when we have talented youngsters on our books.

Taylor will probably go back to Bristol Rovers in league One I’d imagine but obviously the manager doesn’t share your view on Forrester. For me he either goes out on loan again to League One(I’d assume) or stays and learns off the experience we have now.I just don’t see him playing on a regular basis as of yet at Stoke

On a one year deal it's brilliant, free agent so nothing spent and experienced cover who could well get a goal or two.
As for those saying it's a shit signing, wouldn't say it to his face would you? Looks an hard bastard him.

Forrester played about 5 games for Mansfield and has had a few niggly injuries. So he probably needs a loan more than Taylor. Maybe MON's thinking is to take a look at both of the pre-season and decide which one goes out on loan?

Championship quality player on a one contract, dependable solid about sums it up. A good signing to protect the goals against column not so good if your building for the future. can't see us playing a very high line in defence as we would get murdered for turning and pace, with that collection of central defenders.

As long as that’s the case I can live with it.

You can't really go wrong on a one year deal. Hope he does well. You can if it’s with an option for another after so many games like vrancic

I know it seems a strange concept but happy to reserve judgement until I see him on the pitch in a Stoke shirt.
The last free transfer from Cardiff was met with at best a lukewarm response yet didn't turn out half bad at all.

Yup Wasn't enamoured with Odemwingie signing (wasn't a free though we swapped him for a useless...) but he was fabulous Another injury that really did for us
