I like his stand up but I'm not really a fan of his TV or film work tbh. I don't get why everyone seems to rave about after life, I thought it was pretty hollow and nothing but trying to get an emotional response without having any sort of substance or intelligence about it.

The Office was genius.
I can take or leave anything he's done since that.

Comedy genius, most of the stuff he's done has been brilliant, recent stand-up not so much.
Better alongside Merchant and Pilkington.

If transgender activism isn’t up for challenging then we are in a bad place. I would say that transgender activism has taken on a fairly privileged role in the media. I would say there is a difference between joking about transgender community and joking about activists who exist in and around that community. A distinction between the two is important if we are going to make any progress at all.

I tend to agree that nothing is comedically off limits if treated with skill and craft and maybe its hard to judge from just that clip but that just looks cruel, there is no subtlety in any of those words in that clip alone. One things for sure I bet any trans person in the audience felt pretty threatened with the whooping and hollering around them and probably felt that they were most definitely the subject. Gervais has attracted lots of mainstream and popular support of course but also some encouragement from shall we say darker corners of the internet. Anyway, was this part before or after he ironically told the audience how rich he was for the 9th time I prefer to remember the good times

The TRA's are the butt of the joke not the trans community, some of whom find the whole woke agenda surrounding them counter productive. I'm surprised other comics can't see this unless they see their own virtue signalling bollocks in it and it's struck a nerve.

I watched it before reading all the headlines about it and just found it a bit odd. It was almost like one of his Golden Globes monologues stretched out for an hour designed to get a reaction which it has, so I guess he's achieved his goal.
Saying that, I quite like the guy but there are easily better stand ups around.

Saying that, I quite like the guy but there are easily better stand ups around. His stand up is lazy and cliched, his comedy series have generally been edgy and ground breaking. The first one is his cash cow, Netflix throw another few million at him for him to regurgitate the same old stuff. I'd rather him be honest and come out and say that instead of all this "provoking debate" bollocks..........

I thought it was a very funny special. Designed up upset the most pathetic in society and pushing enough buttons to make the actual bigots (ironically) show their true colours

Yep. No greater skill, design or ambition than that. I wonder if he could do more. His scripted work certainly does, His stand up is base.

The Guardian write utterly despicable pieces at times, designed to offend. They've just knocked out an article describing Amber Heard as an 'imperfect victim'. Unbelievable and disgusting, quite frankly. If the Guardian and champagne socialists are crying and throwing their baby toys out the pram, then it is excellent.

He's a paradox. His early stuff was brilliant but he's now morphed into a poor example of those dross 'comedians' who think mocking people with problems is the best, and easiest, way of getting a laugh.

Good art should always make you think and if it can, be also risky.
I may be wrong but I don't think that most women of our time would see this as a good representation of modern femininity. For me, it's an obvious sculpture that someone would do if you are into gender politics, and that's not very risky at all. Not sure what the bear on top represents, unless bears do always shit in the woods and to be fair, this is very wooden.
