Always think of the Yorkshire TV commentator John Helm commenting on that day Those images I've watched the film of that once and never again. I don't know how John Helm held it together seeing that. The speed at which the fire took hold was frightening.

It was horrific. These days, cameras tend to (Christian Eriksen aside) cut away from traumatic scenes, but watching this, Heysel and Hillsborough live on TV? The images and feelings just stay with you forever, so I have no idea what families at home were going through. RIP to any of those who were lost, and all thoughts to those who were at those terrible events.

It happened on my birthday and I'll never forget it. Always think for a minute or two about it every year.

In that period disasters seemed a regular occurrence and not only in stadiums like Bradford or Hillsborough . From memory Bradford had something in common with the King’s Cross fire with the build up of combustible waste leading to the fires in both places . Then there was Zebrugge , Marchioness , Piper Alpha , the Manchester Airport fire which I recall a person from Meir died . How many of these disasters were down to systemic failings or individual negligence ? Certainly in the case of Marchioness when there was no one on look out leading to the larger vessel running over the smaller entertainment boat in the Thames
Health and Safety gets mocked but adherence to policy does save lives

Just about remember it as a young child and that commentary of the man on fire walking across the pitch will haunt me forever. Always hated going into the Butler Street stand after that, with it's wooden floor. RIP. After that tragedy, I used to look at the gaps in the floorboards in the Butler street stand, to see if there was any rubbish underneath. Many things were quite scary for kids growing up in the 80's, after all of the aids adverts, I was convinced I was going to catch aids and everyone would die from it
