A truly horrific event. I can still picture the images of fans on fire trying to get out of the stand.

If there is such a thing as a silver lining to disasters then this and Hillsborough helped massively to improve Stadium safety. RIP to those who perished on this awful day.

People only remember and commemorate the 56 people who died that day, but the actual human toll was far worse. Burns are among the most painful, debilitating, disfiguring, and traumatic injuries anyone can experience.

39 years ago today. Still remember the day now as it unfolded.
RIP to the 56 and thoughts with those that were traumatised on that awful day.
Thank god that the authorities have learnt from that day and that stadiums have moved on a lot since that day in relation to safety.

On thatday I was Refereeing Tamworth Town ans saw match postponed on the football results in the club after the match.
I assumed there had been crowd trouble then saw the trajick news on TV later. One of the worst ever news reported I've ever seen.
Two years later i had Derby Cty v Bradford , reserves in the central Lge.

We also had the riot at St Andrews on the same day when mass disorder broke out in the Birmingham v Leeds game which resulted in 500 injured and one young lad losing his life. Dark days.

Just about remember it as a young child and that commentary of the man on fire walking across the pitch will haunt me forever.
Always hated going into the Butler Street stand after that, with it's wooden floor.
RIP.

Martin Fletcher's book 56 The Story of the Bradford Fire is a disturbing exposure of the criminal neglect and incompetence that led up to the disaster.

Those haunting images will never be forgotten by those who watched it unfold on tv. For those who were actually there, I can’t begin to imagine how they deal with the memories. An awful day. Rest in Peace.

Sat in that stand a year or two earlier when I was doing the 92 grounds … was tight crowded and dark , much tighter than the Butler street, god only knows what it would have been like trying to escape on that fateful day full with the exit gates which many headed for only to find them padlocked ..hell on earth
Got to know a few Bradford fans of that era , who frequented the Fighting Cock and Corn Dolly etc as both our clubs paths crossed for a while
Went the opening of their new , replacement stand when they played England XI in Dec 86 ..one of the strangest atmospheres I’ve experienced at a football ground
RIP to those that died and thoughts to the many injured either physically or mentally
