The point was more that it's our call, surely, unless there's a clause in the contract? They're talking about Tavernier at Boro going for £10m+, that's the going rate for good Championship players these days I thought? We got what, £12m for Collins and he'd barely played for us. Depends on how competent their team is compared to ours! If we were to sell him to fund transfers this summer then I’d hope £8-10mil would be realistic, especially given he is still under contract for another few seasons. I’d be hugely disappointed if we sold for £8m.

I'd be amazed if Baker was on the radar of Premier League teams. He joined us for nothing 4 months ago , and I don't think he's shown enough yet for anyone to think he could really have a major impact at the top level. If he does another 6 months at a really good level, maybe. But, at 27, with a mercurial career, even then, it's hard to see who'd be in for him.
But if the bidding did get up to £8m,I think we'd take it in a heartbeat. In this environment, where nobody has 2 pennies to rub together, you cold do some major damage in the transfer market with that kind of money.

Everyone would be kicking off if we offered a 3 year deal to a 30 year old CB. Maybe it’s just me but I’ve never even heard of this fucker. My interest in the Championship is zero.

Good old Ekker. And If it did then that imo is pathetic on the chairman’s part. I know not many will agree but I find the whole having a parking space thing archaic, old fashioned and quite frankly a bit symbolic of what I think is wrong with the world. If you owned a company/business then you’re well within your rights to decide where you park. I have a parking space where I live, on my drive. Same principle in a way. Why should Coates struggle to park at the club he owns when he can have his own space? You’ll be suggesting that he shouldn’t have his own office next… Because it’s just archaic. Who cares that he owns it? First in gets first choice. It promotes fairness and equality:

A free transfer for a 30yo, coming off a player-of-the-season year for a play-off team on the left of a back 3, who can play left-back and midfield seems fine. Even if it went wrong, it wouldn't feature in our top 20 worst signings since relegation.

After a decent couple of years he’s been very poor. Wouldn’t it be easier to let him go rather than waste any wage?

I totally agree that he’s been useless but that different from the deal the Club did, his contract was extended on reduced terms which probably suited us from a FFP perspective. There was no incremental cost. I’d still have preferred him to go on a free last summer but no one would take him!

Let’s wait and see, I think his business has been good so far though. Wouldn’t have minded the defender from Luton, he’s much better than that waste of space Morgan Fox.
