You've really got to just play Shaw now haven't you? Even if it's just for 45 minutes to see how his body reacts. It's beyond a joke.. that's even before we get to the fact it looks certain he's going to keep Foden on the left 🫣

The most expected result in Sweden from England-Slovakia is 1-1. The betting odds on that result is just 3,32 times the money.

Argue all you like about what team he should pick, does it actually matter? That team against Slovenia should've won comfortably, regardless of lack of balance or whatever, the players should easily be good enough to open up that defence.
The issue is the fear is back. I thought over the last few years Southgate had done a decent enough job in at least getting the players expressing themselves and enjoying playing for the country, but this competition the overriding feeling you get watching them is they're scared to make a mistake. Wide players aren't taking on full backs. No-one is moving in to space to give an option. The passing is too careful and lacking any incisiveness. They don't look hungry for the ball, and when they get it they're so scared of losing it they won't take a risk, or play a quick pass or ANYTHING, so they end up with almost the only attacking option being a long ball over the top. And the reaction to adversity is to retreat further in to their collective shell.
So he could pick Jude alongside Rice with Foden at 10, he could bring Shaw in, and try Gordon or Palmer or Eze, maybe drop Kane for whoever, we'll still be pedestrian, static, rabbit-in-the-headlights shitting ourselves.
Slovakia are currently best priced at 9-1 to win. To me that looks way over-priced

Three games, 2 goals and England won it's group. Before the competition started, the weak area was supposed to be the defense. Maybe consult with Pep and have him tell Southgate where the players should be lining up. with England's talent......Slovakia and Switzerland should be manageable stepping stones to the semi-finals.

Watching England over the last few games reminded me of Stoke two seasons ago, slow on the build up, keeping possession by playing it backward & sideways (like it’s a friendly). No intensity at all.
It’s criminal the lack of intensity in this side in comparison to other teams in the tournament. Plus reading about the press conferences especially with Southgate, it seems he is just on borrowed time.
The criticism is fair he’s the highest paid manager in this tournament & probably globally? The players are certainly the top earners at their respective clubs. It’s always been the same story with England, too many egos and no heart on the pitch,

Southgates biggest achievement has been brining harmony and humility to the England set up. The players themselves need credit for that too actually.

It's so cruel that Southgate has put me in a position where I'm looking forward to the England games the least.
Bored to tears every time so far.

The current crop not as egotistical, but over the years. On paper we have under performed since around Sven days with the talent or high profile players. Maybe the lack of confidence in the fans and media may have an opposite effect of pressure (winning the tournament) no expectation etc in comparison to the recent times.

So, again, it appears he thinks the only problem that needs fixing is the second deeper midfielder alongside Rice with Mainoo coming in.
If it’s crap again tonight I can see us going out Iceland style. Why is he being so stubborn with this? Just play Palmer or Gordon, or both. What good is them not playing doing for us and the squad, if the rest of the squad know that we basically need to be eliminated for them to have a chance to show what they can do?

Pickford
Walker Stones Guehi Trippier
Bellingham Rice
Saka Foden Palmer
Kane
Its that simple to fix it Gareth, and push them 10 yards further up the pitch.

Same as existing left side issue, he will come inside all the time and no overlapping left back He's left-footed though - as are Foden and Saka. It's bizarre that we're said to have a problem there when we have so many talented left-footed attackers - in the case of Saka and Palmer because they've been so drilled to play this inverted role - while the apparent answer to the left flank problem is theright-footed Gordon Maybe if we just told one of them to hold their width on that side and occasionally drive down the outside, it'd benefit the team

It's a bit like watching Stoke.
Every time another game comes round, my brain resets and I forget about everything that has gone before.
We may not have played well up until now, but we are still in the tournament and have the opportunity to improve and progress.
Time will tell I guess.

We'd better improve dramatically, otherwise we're out tonight. I'm hoping that we've intentionally underperformed to give our future opposition a false sense of security. Time will tell I suppose but Southgate needs to pull his finger out and get the team firing on all cylinders. Come on England!

Any changes would just be tinkering anyway. All Southgate’s got to do is tell them to stop playing at walking pace, show some movement and intensity and takes some risks in the final third and the problem is solved but he appears totally incapable of doing it.
