Kane just scored 44 goals Bellingham voted player of the season in Spain Foden won it here there is absolutely no question with have fantastic players Bellingham and Kane don’t play in England, which may be the exceptions that prove the rule. The PL season is much longer than the other leagues and the players look mentally and physically knackered, wishing they were somewhere else. They definitely don’t look like a team. I just watched Georgia demolish Portugal - great game and I haven’t heard of any of their players. But I know one thing, the Georgians, from a nation 1/25 the population of England, looked they wanted win for their country. There's a shed load of players for the other nations who play in England do they look the same?

Shame about Foden having to go back home. It appears his missus allows him to play in the hole, unlike Southgate.

Kane got 44 goals in Germany but he got the service he needed. He’s only had one clear cut chance in 3 games because our build is pedantic and we don’t have anyone that can consistently get past the full backs and put in a decent cross.

I don’t rate the Netherlands at all and because they’ve got a big nation tag I think we’d be more up for that. Czechs are good at what they do, it’s not pretty but they’re a big team that rely on set pieces. I’d prefer Georgia though, even a half arsed England should beat them. Georgia have to beat Portugal and that just won't occur It might occur 🤪

He may not be a good general, but he’s a lucky general. Has any England manger ever had such easy routes to the semis of major tournaments before? Win groups, get easier fixtures. Netherlands have properly lucked out, they've got Romania having come third in their group, with the opportunity of playing Austria or Turkey. Also, fun fact: Gareth Southgate has won as many knockout games with England (6) in the 5 years from 2018-2023 than England have in the 50 previous years from 1968-2018. Another fun fact: those knockout wins from 1968-2018 consisted of: Paraguay, Belgium (AET, when they were shit), Spain (penalties), Cameroon, Denmark and Ecuador.

well unfortunately you are not in charge thankfully This Modern day thing of players pissing off back home for such trivial circumstances has crept in over the last few years. Where’s the dedication? Misses the training sessions. He surely can’t start the next game so he's gone home for the birth of his child...which imo is one of best things to happen to any dad. You originally said he can stay there I think the vast majority of us would disagree with you this team needs Phil foden..this happening could be a blessing in disguise

For decades and decades you only played knockout games against the elite. Now with the expansion of tournaments, not only are there more rounds, but you can play pretty average teams in the earlier rounds. If you want to compare knockout wins. Southgate has beaten - Colombia (on pens), Sweden, Germany (when they were shit), Ukraine, Denmark and Senegal. Hardly much different to the past. And Southgate continually has the most ridiculously lucky draws every tournament. (Ps I don't agree that the Belgium side in 1990 was shit)

I can see us stumbling to winning it. The draw is as easy as we could wish for - Southgate is unbelievably lucky in tournament draws - and who knows what could happen in the final.
If Portugal and Greece can bore themselves to winning it, why can't we.
Hopefully then the manager will realise he's been lucky and fuck off while his stock is still high.

You don't 'stumble' to win any tournament, and it would be a massive achievement. Feel like a lot of England fans genuinely don't want to see us progress and would be happy to see us drop out of the tournament.

Its a good point and Im hoping that Southgate cautious defensive approach will work better in the knock-out stages where most games are won by the single goal or so. We are shit to watch and Im not happy with the tactics, but we have an easy route to the final and we havent really had many goals scored against us. Everything will be forgiven if we win every game 1-0 to win the Euros. Heres hoping And generally the abuse for Southgate has definitely gone a bit overboard

Superb article from The Guardian linkGood article, but I do sympathise with Southgate in that he has to work with what he's got. I don't what to go back to the days when football was a "kicking contest" and we had "dirty Leeds" and every team had his "chopper" or "bite your legs", but today there are so many cry babies who jump on the ground when touched feigning a life changing injury. I remember a documentary on England winning the WC in 66 and one of the players saying he remembered sitting in the dressing room and looking round and feeling "We may not have the best players in the world, but we have some players who would run through a brick wall for the rest of the team." No England manager will be successful like Ramsay (and Clough at club level) till they have a group of players who have a real passion to succeed, and make personal sacrifices for their team mates. When I read Slovenia my immediate eating was to think of Iceland.

Everything will be forgiven if we win every game 1-0 to win the Euros. Heres hoping And generally the abuse for Southgate has definitely gone a bit overboard The whole reaction (a narative by the media) hass completely blown everything out of proportion, and it's done intentionally to stir up engagement. We have been poor and average (at best) at times, but no team plays well from the first game to winning the final. That's not how football works. But the reality is, we've done what we needed to do. We've finished top of a group and fallen into the favourable side of the draw, which was a combination of us achieving what we set out to (by hook or by crook) and most of the other 'good' teams in the competition being even shitter than we have. I'm a big fan of Foden and believe he's a key part to us winning anything, but him leaving and likely missing Sunday fixes an issue that Southgate has made himself. Trent in midfield doesn't work. Gallagher just isn't very good at this level. Mainoo and Palmer are a breathe of fresh air, and both strike me as players who won't shrink under the spotlight.

People will start blaming Southgate reaching the final via an "easy route". I just want us to win ONE major tournament in my lifetime and I dont fucking care how we do it and who beat along the way. There are some miserable football fans around. Im super happy we have got Slovakia next
