I dont think it was a meaningless friendly v Brazil since it showed clearly that some of our 'squad' players need to either up their game or, forget it.

When players play against this kind of opposition it is only then that you can see if someone is suited to this level or not. Its a different game to club football.

Mainoo clearly is, but it's good that Southgate is prepared to give these youngsters a chance as well because there were many England managers who never gave players of this age range a chance at senior level in the past. People seem to forget that. Some of our players like Saka (called up at 18) have developed into what they are because of the support and nurturing they have had from the England manager imho.

The remarkable thing is that he keeps blooding youngsters AND gets the team to compete at the highest level. That takes some doing. Most international managers either just go for experience or bring on a generation of youngsters who develop, peak and go to seed together and then have to repeat the cycle.
