No Sterling, Alexander-Arnold, White, Coady or Callum Wilson Ivan Toney and Kyle Walker in, along with Guehi. No Watkins. All feels a bit stale to be honest. Not sure how the likes of Guehi, Gallagher and Mount can justify a position at the moment........

I'm sure that team if it really went for it would beat Italy, trouble is....

Will be interesting to see if Toney sits on the bench for 180 minutes. You can't keep picking someone and then just ignoring them.

It's difficult to pick a side without a couple I really don't think should be in there.
Ramsdale should be the number 1.
Trippier the right back.
Bellingham and Rice in midfield.
Saka and Rashford in the attacking unit.
Past that you can question them all and you can question Rice from the above too tbh.

I'm surprised to see Toney in the squad. It goes against the theory that he wasn't included in the World Cup squad due to the upcoming (at the time) betting allegations.

I genuinely can't wait for Southgate to go so that this squad we've got (not necessarily this particular squad) can be let off the lead

In respect of the inclusion of Toney is he still under investigation for breaking gambling rules? If so it seems a strange choice for inclusion.
I’m not querying his ability, simply the ethics behind his call up if there’s still a cloud hanging over his head

Imo , Ivan Toney selection well deserved. He doesn't have to play off someone like saka or foden . If Harry kane not available, he can lead the line .
Imo , Declan rice, his positioning and tackling are fine. But his showing for the ball and using it is not international class . Pirlo/ xavi / Bryan Robson, he ain't. V USA in the world cup he just passed the ball back to the centre Half's who had just passed it to him! And he has done this before!
Ben Pearson is a better CDM than Declan rice and he plays in the championship.

I don't know what it is about him (maybe his terrible hair giving off strong 90s vibes) but I'm always reminded of the Microsoft paperclip whenever I see him 🤷♂️

Thing is, this isn't a time for experimentation. It's the real deal. There aren't many big challenging qualifiers anymore. But one's come along.

Don't see why Rice is an automatic starter, he offers nothing on the ball .
James ward prowse will put some tackles in and actually use the ball if you pass it to him . I swear I have seen Declan Rice take the ball off our centre half , facing his own goal and pass it straight back to him , without even looking over his shoulder. At least ward prowse , is trying to take the ball on the half turn and have a quick look around ( scanning) as the ball makes it way to him .
I would honestly rather watch ben pearson , than declan Rice .
Pickford , kyle walker , bellingham , kane , foden , saka , the first names on the team sheet for me

For me Bellingham is the present and future, build the team around him.

I'm with Roy Keane when it comes to Rice, still far too much hype about him......... I like him but can't really argue. He's just very average so far. i read roy keanes autobiograhy , after 3 or 4 games for man utd , bryan robson pulls him to one side brian robson...you are running around a lot roy ( keane) , putting in great tackles , scoring some goals , but thats only half a job . watch me or incey ( paul ince ) , we always showing for the ball , taking it off the keeper , the centre halfs , starting the play off okay thinks roy keane , the blokes bryan robson , he must be right , i will give this a go with practice , roy got better and better at taking the ball of his defenders and starting the play off . What he couldn't do , was take the ball off them and use it like bryan robson and score the amount of goals brian robson did . As the years went bye , he twigged brian robson , must have been effing brilliant to take the ball off the man utd defence , start the play AND SCORE THE AMOUNT OF GOALS ROBBO DID . you dont play alongside brian robson and think declan rice is the real deal .

England not won in Italy since 1961! how many fixtures? how many competitive, 1? Was quoted off Five Live that England had not won in Italy since 61, although Im happy to be corrected on that fact
