No way they'll terminate his contract. He's out until next Jan - the equivalent of an ACL injury. He'll be back playing again but the challenge is keeping him fit and trying to play as much football without it falling under official training. As for the second part of your post... Yes, Toney is exactly the striker we need and er, are you serious?? Where did I mention Stoke in my post? Upon closer inspection of your comments, I now understand what you were trying to say. He really is the kind of target man, goalscoring striker we need though. We should have tried going for him from Peterborough.

I’ve heard from a sauce we’ve been approached to take a player on loan until January. I believe he’s called Tivan Oney. Could be the target man we need!

Suspended from all football activity. So he can't play subbuteo. Or attack vs defence or Kerby.

Not a great look but it must be said he wasn't playing for them at the time.

Misleading headline as he wasn’t in the team/squad at the time. Still, there’s no way that you don’t have insider info at that time.

Remember Lou Macari getting in trouble for betting on a Swindon win (he was Swindon manager at the time)...which they duly did. He said it helped pay for the players tea on the way home . Can't remember the sanction, nothing too harsh I think If he had bet on them losing I guess the come back would have been more severe The truth is he bet on Swindon to lose away at Newcastle in the cup and they lost 6-0. I wouldn`t have been doing somersaults if I had travelled up from the west country to watch that.

He's been diagnosed with a gambling addiction. And here starts a new mission from certain quarters to ban all betting from our screens, radio, shirts, stadiums and a request to put a big covering over bet365 headquarters so no one can see it and suddenly get tempted. What a load of bollocks.

He's been diagnosed with a gambling addiction. Great attempt to deflect the attention. He'd have used this as mitigation regardless off whether he really does have a gambling problem or it just suited his agenda to receive a shorter ban by coming out to the enquiry & saying he needs help & will seek help. This new information definitely explains why he's not even allowed to train at his club whilst serving his playing ban. They'll be a fair amount of mistrust between Toney & past and current colleagues of his I'm sure. Darren Bent was talking about this on Talksports Drive channel & he was saying every club will have players who bet & everyone will know within the club who the dressing room better(s) are. Wonder if he's ever betted on England losing a match?!

Interesting to see how this one plays out but his career at Brentford is probably over at this point. Betting on his own team mates to lose? What does that say about your respect for them? Football is probably the only sport where the underdog always has a chance. Piss poor.
Or.... Modern footballers have so little loyalty to their team mates and the fans that it's irrelevant anyway? We already know they're shagging each others wives etc... I doubt this really matters any more or less.
If I was in a team and one of the lads bet on us to lose, I'd tell him to get fucked.

It was when he was a young player at Newcastle, out on loan. He bet on his parent club losing, which is still a properly dickish thing to do. He would still have access to privileged information. Gambling problem or not, it is totally out of order.

I haven't read the whole thread but didn't Lou Macari get punished for a similar offence when he was manager at Swindon?

When gambling is glorified to the extent that it is, and young men are paid millions to advertise it, people shouldn't be too surprised when a number of them become addicted to it.
