He’s pissed and trying to shag that bird in the video. Shit happens. Beats reading about Woy's "Plan of Attack" or similar dishwater.

It would be a little more understandable if she didn’t look like such a troll. Shocking lack of disrespect to his employer. Imagine being recorded saying that about your boss, you’d be fired. Football players have too much power. If you were fired for saying that about your boss you should go straight to an employment tribunal whatever you say or do in your own time unless illegal is none of their business.

I don't know all the ins and outs of this saga, but the guy is now apparently banned until January 2024. So Brentford will be deprived of the services of their main striker for half a season through no fault of their own. Surely there are issues of club discipline and breach of contract in play here. The player deserves every penalty or sanction they might give him.

The club could rightfully sanction him with a dock in wages for breaches committed while a Brentford player, but I'm not sure if that applies to those breaches committed before he joined Brentford.

Eight months holiday with pay not too harsh a punishment, I can't see Brentford paying him if he has brought about the suspension but suppose it depends on the contract fine print.

So does this mean he’s banned from training too? Or is he free to keep himself fit courtesy of the club?

Didn’t someone in the lower leagues get a 10 year ban a few years back? As someone mentioned above, the offence is viewed much more harshly if there are bets involving your own club. Going back into football history, when I were a lad, there was a major betting scandal, involving the Sheffield Wednesday player and England prospect, Peter Swan, and also involved two other Wednesday players, Tony Kay and David Layne, with the three betting on Sheffield Wednesday to lose their away match at Ipswich Town on Saturday 1 December 1962. Ipswich won the match 2–0 with two goals from Ray Crawford. I don't know now how the case was discovered or proved, but subsequently Swan received a four-month jail sentence in Lincoln jail and a life ban from football. His ban was lifted in 1972 and he returned to play for Wednesday again, after a ban lasting 9 seasons. Both clubs were in the top flight at the time, and Wednesday I think were runners up to Tottenham during Spurs double winning season.

The cynic in me tells me if it was a higher ranking player from 'the establishment' then the ban wouldn't be anywhere near as lengthy.

The penalties there were for match fixing rather than just betting on their own team. The story came to light when the matchfixer in chief (Jimmy Gauld) sold the story to the newspapers to earn a bit more. The players at the time weren't well paid, but from memory the amounts they were paid to fix the results were very small. (I am sure I saw somewhere years ago that it was between £50 & £150.)

Remember Lou Macari getting in trouble for betting on a Swindon win (he was Swindon manager at the time)...which they duly did. He said it helped pay for the players tea on the way home . Can't remember the sanction, nothing too harsh I think If he had bet on them losing I guess the come back would have been more severe

I wonder what he bet on? That’s the key isn’t it. Obviously the rules are there for good reasons but, if it turns out he’s been betting on games in the Argentine 3rd division or something then there’s a clear argument at the hypocrisy of it all, given English football is awash with money from gambling firms.
