Three double barrelled names in the squad now. Oohhh get us, very posh Watching the FA Cup game tonight, I see that Villa had a Jason Philogene-Bidace in the team. Probably destined to be nicknamed "Badass."

It’s great until it actually stifles the way we play totally. Teams target him and let him play. We cannot play how MON wants with Batth in the side. It’s quite worrying how many people don’t see how much Batth completely kills our game. The manager seems to have been unable to see it tbf.

I'd rather see Batth bang the ball up the field to safety than have Chester et al stylishly stroke a pass 10 yards to a very tightly marked Joe Allen. This happened in the Orient match and we were fortunate that Joe was aware enough, and competent enough to deal with it.

Batth is the type of player Stoke fans like , he heads it , he kicks it long, puts his body on the line, seems a decent lad, but ultimately he’s quite shite at football. No team is getting promoted from this league with Batth playing week in week out, fact. And we're not getting promoted with him out of the team right now........We are so fragile nowadays, it's refreshing to see a proper defender showing commitment & desire and actually looking like he actually gives a shit. Carry on Danny!

When did double barrelled names stop being the preserve of posh people? At my state primary no child had more than one last name. Apparently now 11% of people aged between 18 and 34 double-barrell their surname when they get married. Keeping up with the Smith-Joneses I guess! Where does it all end though? When double-barrelled people marry double-barrelled people do they become quadruple-barrelled and so on?

It’s quite worrying how many people don’t see how much Batth completely kills our game. The manager seems to have been unable to see it tbf. It was quite clear from the first game that O'Neill wants us to play out from the back and on the whole it worked. However on occasions the relative inexperience of the three centre backs came through - notably against Cardiff. Batth was brought back into the side to add some old school defensive nous and when Souttar got injured he became a permanent fixture because he's now the best option available. And within his limitation he's played well. You are right that playing Batth has knackered the original game plan but that isn't out of choice, it's out of necessity. Last summer marked the start of the rebuild and there was no way the squad would be shaped for the future over that one window. Long term I'm sure the plan is to replace Batth and Chester for younger ball playing centre backs but we aren't there yet and Batth is doing a sterling job as a stop gap. The fact that we allowed Ostigard (another pretty old school defender) to go and are looking to bring in a player like Harwood-Bells seems to prove the point as to where we are heading. We appear to have some promising youngsters on the books but they look a couple of years from breaking through (if they ever do) and the idea we just plonk them into a side struggling to find form is just wishful thinking that will do the team and the youngsters no favours. Danny Batth isn't the future and the way he plays is making us less progressive. However he's doing a very good job in a team ravaged by injuries. The manager knows exactly impact Batth is having on the team - but like some of us fans he gets he's doing a good job in less than ideal circumstances.

It’s quite worrying how many people don’t see how much Batth completely kills our game. The manager seems to have been unable to see it tbf. I'm not sure about that. He often references the fact that Batth has limitations with his passing and is working on it but also the team have to adapt to it. He obviously gets annoyed when we go from back to front cutting out the midfield - see his comments on Wright Phillips. As people have said the opposition know that they leave Batth with the ball, cut off the easy option short passes and he will dither and then pass long negating our attacking strengths. Even if his long passes reach a Stoke man the opposition are all back in position to defend against the quick clever passing that we saw earlier in the season. The trouble is there are no options, Chester was a disaster in the middle from what I saw in the highlights. If we get Harwood Bellis I wouldn't be surprised to see Batth dropped with a back three of HB with Wilmot, Fox/Chester/Batth either side.

We have won one at home since that Cardiff game and looked awful. A lot of that is to how slow we move the ball and that starts with Batth. At no point this season have the "inexperienced" back 3 look like they needed an older head.

Batth needed to come in when Souttar was injured as there was no one else really. But with that we needed to go to hoofball. This notion of experience is strange as well because as more experience has come into the team, the worse we have got.

Blackburn reports are that THB is excellent on the ball & good all round but needs experience alongside would suggests Wilmot does too that's either Chester or Batth & right now that can only be Batth once THB is imbedded into the side, then we might see Batth dropped?

They were playing well on the whole and we were playing some decent stuff on the whole too. The only thing you could argue that we needed imo was a left sided CB because Wilmot wasn't particularly comfortable there but that had nothing to do with experience.

Yeah I'm not saying we had a better option because to my knowledge we don't, Chester is a liability, Fox is equally brainless on the ball and a worse defender and I've seen next to nothing of the youngsters so wouldn't have an opinion on them. The squad is very limiting but in part that's MON's fault, his Chester fetish is just plain weird.

Not sure I can see MON putting a 19-yo new signing in there
