In the blink of an eye he's gone from 1 set down to 3-1 up. Outstanding.

He's just dropped a dart on the floor, put two in the treble bed, picked the other one up and slapped it straight in for a 180.

What kind of 16 year old animal goes for 16 double 10 to take out 36?
Christ.

I've played darts for years, but never I derstood why stuff like that was deemed to be taking the piss. It's down to player preference surely. If someone did it to me I wouldn't even notice.

The scary thing is he can play better than that. 20 odd trebleless visits and couldn’t hit double top. Well in Son.

Gutted I didn't put him on at 75/1 before the tournament and then at 45/1 earlier today. Into 10/1 now. Not sure he'll go all the way but he'll be there or thereabouts if he can keep that up. Save your money, not a cat in hells chance he’ll even make the semi How wrong you were!

Wow.
I’ve never seen anything like that.
Bull bull D16 like it wasn’t even an effort.
Treble 19 hitting not seen since Taylor.
Going for a 180 to leave double 1 to take the piss.
16 double 10 on 36. Utter madness.
What a player.
In a way Cross did similar when he won the world title. Be interesting to see how he fairs over the next few years.

I'm not a fan mate. I think he thought he was going to dominate darts for years to come a few years ago, but there's that many players who've stepped up to his level now he doesn't like it. Great for the game though, it's not as good when one bloke dominates like Taylor did for years. Go back to circa 2016ish (when he set the world record average against Smith,) and Van Gerwen was playing darts from another universe,he seemed near untouchable for about 18 months, the only way it seemed he could lose was through getting bored in matches,he was beating people that easily. Then as you say, other players have raised their game in response to the challenge. Taylor also made the point after MVG had had his first child that the demands of raising a family has a big impact and changes your priorities, and we'd see what van Gerwen was truly made of in terms of sustaining his domination from thereon. At the time I thought it was Taylor, wrestling with his own decline, just being a bit salty, but it seems like a very pertinent observation in hindsight. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that Littler’s already got a few kids.

As someone who only really knows the rules, played in the pub with friends… Why is 16 double 10 taking the piss?
Is it because he could have gone lower and left more options for the double if he missed?

Just got it mentally as well. How many players that we've known and loved crumble because they've missed a double? Luke just does something with his watch, a chat to himself and bosh right back into it with a 130+ score. He must be odds on now.
