In a tweet – since deleted – moments just before the news became official the US beer brand said: “Well, this is awkward…” The sale of alcohol is strictly controlled in Qatar, a conservative Muslim nation, but organisers had promised that it would be available in match venues and in fan zones – and that it would also be reasonable priced. However it has now decided that alcohol will be available at matches only in hospitality boxes, where the cheapest suites are nearly £20,000 a match, and some fan zones after 7pm, where it will cost nearly £12 for 500ml of Budweiser"

Can't understand why Budweiser deleted their original tweet. Does nobody have a fucking backbone and the courage to stand behind what they say anymore?

Of course in the expensive hospitality the Fifa members can all get drinks in the ground.

I can't say I'm convinced it was a force for good in Russia was it? Not really that excited - but partly that's a process which has been happening over time. The best World Cups for me were when it meant suddenly there was live football on all the time, as opposed to highlights on the Big Match (wasn't allowed to stay up for MOTD!). It was rare, and it was brilliant. Now it's a bloated carcass tainted by being called 'FIFA world cup', with too many games and not enough retrospective discipline for the cheating which is so rife (is there VAR by the way?) But I'll watch our games, and some of the other groups (not every game as I used to), as well as most of the knockouts, because I'm still a mug for a bit of an international tournament and the unfolding narrative (one thing I've always liked is some bloke you've never heard of becoming a tournament legend). Fair play to those who are tuning out completely but I know myself and won't be able to.

Not sure how legit this guy is but he's got half a million followers ... If this is true and were to be exposed - would absolutely love to see the shit hit the fan. Could easily forsee Qatar W.C. 2022 becoming a rancid shitfest. FIFA have put a bomb up their own backsides, just waiting to see if Budweiser decide to sue them for breach of contract, and press the detonator. Filthy world cup, before it's even started.

Listening to a chap on talk sport today, he reckons the Qataris have become so pissed off with the constant criticism of their regime, they have now said fuck you alcohol is banned. What happens if the now renege on their temporary tolerance of gays or public shows of affection. Will be we stoning sand executions. If anybody had any balls at the fa they would bring England home now.
Funny I’ve travelled through Doha airport a few times and there’s longes like the Oryx where for about $50 you can drink as much as you want.

Bet loads criticising it watch it though Some will, some won't. Plenty of people criticise FIFA/UEFA/Premier League/FA/Stoke City for all manner of things, pretty much constantly but they remain customers because they love football. There are plenty of conflicted Newcastle United fans, especially from the LGBTQ+ community but the vast majority have retained their season tickets.

They're from France , Rwanda and Japan

My guess is that the alcohol ban was not a last minute decision but rather was planned all along. But they waited until now to announce it because they knew that if they announced it earlier, a sizable number of fans would have chosen to not travel.

Basically they have won the bid by corrupt means and put all the changes in when it’s too late to do anything about it.
FIFA are absolute cunts to allow this happen
