Sticking with Pope as keeper. I wonder if they read this thread in September? 🤪 Foakes was picked for the first test until his illness, the result in the first game has obviously changed the dynamics. Pope kept well to be fair considering, however he could have cost us right at the death when he left a catch that was his all day long...........

You’d think if it was a turning pitch that Foakes would be back in

You’d think if it was a turning pitch that Foakes would be back in I'm not sure turning pitches in Pakistan are a thing anymore, from listening to Ramiz Raja the Pakistan Chairman during the last test they have all become flat decks, they're looking at "drop in" pitches in the future but don't expect the situation to improved for a few years.......

Yeh I know was just talking about the requirement for a better keeper in that type of situation. I guess if it’s another flat deck there’s no need to change a winning side. And like you say he was perfectly competent in the first test.

Not picking a specialist keeper to a tour of UAE, Bangladesh, India or Sri Lanka would be criminal, you could get away with someone like Bairstow/Buttler at an absolute push but not Duckett/Pope......

Maybe but for everywhere else it’s fine. And even there I wouldn’t be too bothered because of the better batting. Pope looks better than Bairstow tbh.

Very different pitch to first test, ball spinning a lot and England already 3 down in the first session.
We’re still going at 6 an over though and if we can get up to 350 that would be a very decent score.
Think me might regret only picking one front line spinner and will miss Foakes behind the stumps.

I said 450 would be decent after about an hours play but I think you’re right 350 would be competitive. I’m surprised by the pitch though and I get the impression England are too…… EDIT Make that 5. Well bowled Ahmed.

We'll be lucky to make 200 here.

Not watching. Is the debutant bowler who’s taken all the wickets bowling magic or are we just coming unstuck trying to be aggressive against him?

To be fair England teams in the past would still be 6 down on a pitch like this but we’d only have 60 on the board.

Can’t imagine the England players have seen anything of him so they’ve just decided to try and hit him out of the attack, unsuccessfully.

Stokes done by the googly, 228-6.
We're not picking Ahmed at all, he could get 10 here on debut..........

281ao
Some good late hitting from Mark Wood. Decent recovery in the end, but feels slightly below par.
We're in the game though, and it's moving along quickly again. We'll have to bowl well but anything can happen either this England side at the moment. This could be another cracker

Hopefully the gamble will prove a success

Feels a lot short of par with one full time spinner. Hopefully will can snaffle a couple early and Leach can get to work

We appear to have completely misread the pitch here, 4 seamers on a turning wicket with an average spinner and 2 part timers could bite us on the arse.
Only extreme Bazball in our 2nd innings is going to get us out of this one I fear..........

Very pleasantly surprised watching that and shows you should always wait until both teams bat I suppose.
That said what were Pakistan doing, they hardly played a positive shot in the whole session?
Well bowled England though and congrats to Leach on his 100th test wicket……

Excellent morning, a stark contrast to waking up and checking the score this time last year.
If we can smack another 250 it’s game over for Pakistan.

Healthy lead that, well bowled and that quick scoring in the first innings has proved beneficial.
200 plus and it could be the series wrapped up!

What was Crawley thinking there? Crazy run I’m all for this new brand of attacking cricket but that run was absolute mental …It was a 20/20 needing 11 off 5 type of run Not a test match 4 days left and a 90 run lead with no wickets down Crazy

That's a fantastic catch at short leg and that definitely means game on.
Another wicket and Pakistan will fancy their chance.
Bit sloppy from Root.

Really was a great catch as he’d started to move in the opposite direction. Still think England are well ahead in the game, chasing anything over 200 on this pitch would be a big ask.

You can’t tell me if Foakes was in for Jacks for example we wouldn’t be even better off. Pope has been kept back because he’s had to keep for 70 overs with a nights rest in between……
