"Good to see Craig Overton in the England squad".........said no one ever...... What do I make of the 14 man squad? Why are Zak Crawley and Craig Overton in it? Zak Crawley is retained because as Jesus said, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a batsman to get dropped from an England side. He shoud be nowhere near this side. teh same goes fro Roy in white ball. Overton's selection is really weird in that assuming 1-7 is Lees, Crawley, Lees, Pope, Root, Bairstow, Stokes and Foakes and we play Leach we have 5 seam bowlers fighting over 3 spots. You'd have thought we'd be going with the bowlers in possession of the places i.e. Anderson, Broad and Potts. So Overton is just back up as is Robinson, although I'm not sure Robinson has done much to justify a recall, unless they've seen him putting a big effort on his fitness and have rewarded him by including him in the squad.

Agree. Anderson, Broad and Potts are 'in possession' so they should keep their places. As you say Overton is just back up, but think Robinson got 9 wkts for Sussex last week, so some sort of return to form and fitness.

The Hundred...
It's nauseating.
The team names are shit. The sponsors are shit. The format is shit.

Thought they may have sorted out the tv graphics after last season but no. It’s dire and really puts me off the game

Not yet had the pleasure of watching a Hundred game (cinema last night, bridge this evening) but good to see Jason Roy continuing his fine form.
A golden duck.

What a game at Edgbaston last night! Smeed getting the first Hundred ton and Brookes taking 5 for and three catches.
It still doesn't quite feel like real cricket to me, and I'm not really sure how bothered the players are about it, they seem to treat it all as a giant lark, but it's certainly entertaining and it was a great atmosphere as it so often is down there. I may be coming round to it, still undecided! Can't get used to this franchise system where you buy in other counties players, it just feels weird.

Just can’t get into the Hundred.
Everything seems so forced. So false.
The commentary on Sky is fucking awful. The graphics for the scores are really shite.
Shame the fantasy league thing failed as that would have added something.
That said, it seems popular enough with crowds. Maybe you have to be there.

Being there does help, but it definitely feels like "a show" rather than a cricket match. I'm probably just too old, too used to "normal" short form cricket, which is perfectly entertaining enough for me usually, not the target audience. It also feels like you're watching a highlights package, all the time! Back at Edgbaston tomorrow for the One Day Cup game. I suspect I may enjoy that more, £15 for a day's cricket is pretty good going.

And, these days for me, a quieter day at the One Day Cup would fit the bill for me more than a test match Saturday. I’m not sure I could put up with a bunch of pissheads and I know for sure a trumpet player nearby would really piss me off.

I went to Trent Rockets last season, it was pretty fun but there wasn’t really much interest in the cricket. More just goading boundary fielders and necking as much lager as possible! But I guess at £20 it wasn’t bad value and the ground was full

On a separate note Harry Brook has just hit a century for the Lions against South Africa at Canterbury, it's criminal if he doesn't get his chance in the test series......

On a separate note Harry Brook has just hit a century for the Lions against South Africa at Canterbury, it's criminal if he doesn't get his chance in the test series...... Where does he bat though? I wouldn’t have thought you’d put him in the top 3, which means he has to bat 4,5 or 6 but those spots are closed off with Root, Bairstow and Stokes. So it has to be 3, but Stokes has committed to Pope in that position. Which leaves only an opening batsman’s slot meaning Crawley. Maybe they’ll give that to him and he’ll take it. Why not. He wouldn’t be the first middle order batsman to morph into an opener. The Aussies seem to do this quite a lot with some success. (Apologies for this stream of consciousness… I was just working it through in my head.)

(Apologies for this stream of consciousness… I was just working it through in my head.) If Stokes is still struggling with bowling for any length of time I'd consider moving him to 3 and Brook at 5 even if it's just for this series. We'll have to get funky with the batting line up for the series in Pakistan anyway to get more spinners in the team so I don't think it would be too harmful. I'd be tempted to replace Crawley with Sibley as well, he looks to have added more to his scoring shots to his batting repertoire and for me Crawley is too much of a luxury. He can only dine out on his 267 against Pakistan for so long.....
