I remember Stuart Hall's report on the 0-0 first leg in the car afterwards. Was his usual brilliant self ( at commentary).Compared our back 4 to Roman Centurions I remember his report when we played Man City at Main Road, was a glorious way of describing how well we played before ultimatly losing the game. Then obviously years later you realise what he was, Yep , shame. I remember seeing pull up in a lovely light blue Lotus the day we played Man City at home. Cricket jumper, pocket watch etc. His reports were brilliant. The rest best forgotten

While I have great sympathy for Oldham, my abiding memory of them will always be them ruining my 12th Birthday with this win! Or should I say, Carl Muggleton ruined it. We dominated the whole game and should have been leading 2 or 3-0 but just couldn't take our chances, similar to the Barnsley game last week. Then Muggleton produces this legendary howler in the 89th minute on the day of my 12th Birthday. Never forgiven him for it.

They had a great manager who built a team of lower league journeymen really and it was never really ever going to be repeated. They were fearless against the big sides and great to watch for that spell but as you say, location a huge factor as well. I remember one of the very first live Sky games was Oldham v Norwich. Was great stuff. I have 3 memories of Oldham, 1 being a really fucking young wet behind the ears 2nd game, cup match we lost to Premiership Oldham 2-1 i think at home, night match, a game that was called off due to fog (think ben petty scored for us) and then the race riot game. Overall thank fuck we are better run. The abandoned FA Cup match in the 70s, their plastic pitch full of sand in the 80s, Carl Saunders running on it, and the race riot match where I took my lad to his first away game, he was about 7, Mrs wasn't happy when we got back and it had been on the local north west news.

'Martin Carruthers can't score to save his life' and 'just as we're giving Paul Gerrard man of the match at the other end, I don't know what of the match we give to Muggleton'. Brilliant

A 4-2 (?) win away in the 80s is my best memory. Think a couple of our goals were about a mile offside. Good times.

They had a skinny midfielder with long greasy hair who always seemed to boss the game v us. Smacked the post in the game with Cranson in goal. Name escapes me. Was a real tidy player. Ian Snodin?

As we parked up in the street near the Boothen End we spotted Muggers getting out of a car, and as we did so he dropped his washbag. I quipped that I hoped he wasn't going to do that with the ball today. We then walked to the ground together chatting and I asked him why he was parking in the street instead of behind the Stoke end with the other players. Seems his missus had his car, and parking pass, so he was slumming with us, ironically having driven virtually the same journey as me and my lad. I guess both return journeys were somewhat deflated that day and I resisted the temptation to let his (wife's) tyres down

Palmer, Andy Ritchie, Ian Marshall, Rick Holden. They had a plastic pitch that we were simply hopeless on. I recall Andy Gorom having a blinder at the Vic one year and Tony Henry scoring an absolute worldie in front of the Boothen.

I remember sitting in the Butler Street as a young lad, watching in amazement as it sailed into the top corner and the Boothen End breaking out into applause. I’d never seen that before. I was excited to see us sign him the following season based on that goal. Turns out he was shite.

Not really followed the Oldham situation and didn’t realise they were at risk of dropping out of the league. There is obviously more to their demise than events on the pitch, just when are the footballing authorities going to sort out these rogue owners who only want to asset strip clubs? Maybe the proposed plans to have an independent regulator are what’s needed after all?

I don’t get this. It says it’s stopping them watching the game but there’s clearly just players training in the background. It looks post-match or HT.
