Promising player, but has he ever played at RB? I think we have enough options in central defence, but on the right we only have Smith and maybe Coates? We certainly need another RB/RWB as I see it and maybe this is where we want to play Østigard? Based on that Athletic interview, Rob, it doesn't sounds like he'd like that much. If he's got other choices, you'd think he'd be coming in to play in his best position? Norway have struggled with the central defence for a while now, but Østigard is a player that could fill a gap there. We also have Ajer, but he hasn't been very impressive for Norway in my opinion. Hopefully Østigard signs with a view to a permanent move, but time will tell. If he will accept to play at RB for some games? I think he will as long as he is in the starting line up.

Anything that moves Batth further down the pecking order is a positive. Having 3 CBs who can not only defend but pass the ball out will be a real positive if this guy signs. If Batth stays I do think there are still games out there that suit him perfectly, but in all honesty if he moved on I'd have no issue with it......

Would be good if its a view to a perm They will renew his contract before he comes to us in my view. Unless they intend to spend the White money in this position.

Slightly concerned we’re signing a centre half when we have plenty already here, Let’s hope souttar not on his way out Maybe we are just going down the Pulis route of collecting them

There’s a lot to like about this signing.
Chester’s fitness is sketchy, Batth and Fox don’t inspire me with confidence. Has MON really got the balls to play 3 young CB’s together though?

On the positive side though (if reports about Ostigard's ability are accurate) and there aren't any imminent sales of big Aussie internationals, a back 3 of Wilmot, Souttar and him sounds a bit tasty That would be a very young back 3, along with a young keeper. They’ve played a lot of games for their age, but still lacks experience IMO. Much as I don’t really rate Ba’ath, and Chester is unfortunately past his best, I think we need some experience, and I’d be very surprised if MON didn’t agree. It certainly feels like this means a centre back could be moving on. We look well enough stocked. I can’t see Fox leaving. Who else can play left back in a Back 4? Maybe it’s to free up funds for elsewhere, because a right back/RWB, a holding mid, and a striker seem like the obvious areas we need to get players in. I’d like to see some pace and athleticism in those areas. We’ve got some good footballers, but I think you need a level of physicality to do well in this league.

MON doesn't strike me as someone whose first-choice back 3 would be 22, 21 and 21. I'm definitely going to be nervously anticipating Souttar news over the next few days

And playing them at full back. Exactly my point Well one at right back anyway. He did it with Collins 😱 I felt that was more the fact that Collins needed game time and he didn't feel he was better than Chester, Souttar or Batth. I'd be surprised if we bring in a centre back just to play him as a right wingback. I don't usually look at MON teams and think, "why is he playing half the squad in positions foreign to them?"

Knocks Will Forrester down the pecking order though How long's he out for? January loan I guess...... They said 6 to 8 weeks from his injury which was a couple of weeks ago However maybe it's longer? Maybe a loan is lined up for him?

If Souttar goes, I guess it would depend how we used that money. It’s possible the Norwegian comes in to replace him and doesn’t significantly weaken the side. Plus we have funds to use on areas crying out for improvement. I thought we would hang on to Souttar, but everyone has their price. Probably have to judge it all at the end of the window.

I could see Wilmot being switched to DM if we get Ostigard.
Wilmot is athletic, can pass and is two footed, so could do well in that position IMHO

Doubt he'd be happy if MON made a career-altering decision like that a month in?

Doubt he'd be happy if MON made a career-altering decision like that a month in? Wasn't he the best passer of the ball stats wise on Saturday? If he's starting each game would he really be bothered? Possible - but he had the chance to give the old favourite "I'll play where the gaffer wants me to help the team" line. And he made a point of saying he saw himself as a centre-half and could play in midfield "if needs be". So can't see him doing cartwheels about it - but who knows?

MoN comes across as the sort of bloke who'd have no problem selling an idea to a player but like you say who knows . I'd certainly like to see him try Wilmot there for a run of games but then of course Allen would take the place of Vrancic or Powell so has its downsides too.

Batth was our best defender against Wolves and Reading Then next week he'll tread on the ball or fall over and will cost us a goal. This is what he does, and we need to move on from that type of player if we're to progress.
