Really odd one. Brighton just sold White so you’d imagine they’d be in need of an up and coming centre back?
Likewise, we’ve got Souttar Batth Wilmot Chester and Fox who can play there where needed.
Think we need to strengthen in other areas but in MON we trust

I really thought Chester and Batth would feature a lot this season - and I bet they did too.  Wonder if there's another domino to fall here as has been mentioned? Fox will be on the outside looking in too unless there's another part of this puzzle to be revealed. Could Fox have played his way out of the side in pre-season, with MON deciding he's just not a goer as part of a three? |

On the positive side though (if reports about Ostigard's ability are accurate) and there aren't any imminent sales of big Aussie internationals, a back 3 of Wilmot, Souttar and him sounds a bit tasty

Competition is healthy, if it puts Souttar, Fox, Batth, Chester etc place in the first team at risk then they need to step up and graft to win their place back. we have fallen short in the past of not having enough competition for places, hopefully we can get at least an attacking player on the wing in this window to give us more attacking options? |

MON said playing on the right in a back 3 and at RB wasn't very different in his opinion. |

For me Wilmott could easily fill the CDM, probably better passer than most of our midfielder's!!!

It wouldn't surprise me if we sold Souttar. He had a good season last year and now might be the time to sell. I'm not convinced he's a Premier League defender - makes the odd blunder getting wrong side of his forward and his passing though initially good really deteriorated at the end of last season. We are well endowed in central defenders with Forester and Connor Taylor coming through so if we can raise another £12 million+ I wouldn't argue against his sale.

I would maybe try him in the role against Fleetwood, although you could argue he should have been in pre season if that was an option moving forward.

Wilmot I swear used to play left side for Watford, so would make sense in some capacity. Unless the plan is to use Wilmot as a monster of a DM? I'd like to see that happen. |

Promising player, but has he ever played at RB? I think we have enough options in central defence, but on the right we only have Smith and maybe Coates? We certainly need another RB/RWB as I see it and maybe this is where we want to play Østigard? Based on that Athletic interview, Rob, it doesn't sounds like he'd like that much. If he's got other choices, you'd think he'd be coming in to play in his best position? |

Who knows how the conversation actually went. Arrogant would be, I’m better than all of your other options, play me. However, just saying that you want to know where you stand or whether you need to move sounds like a smart thing to do as a youngster. |

Anything that moves Batth further down the pecking order is a positive.
Having 3 CBs who can not only defend but pass the ball out will be a real positive if this guy signs.
