.... bit odd here too with Big H the Scotsman playing for Oz. Does have much better odds of getting to the World Cup. I’m sure that was behind his thinking

I’m sure that was behind his thinking Poor old Oz used to have to play off with the S American side who finished in a play offf position. Cruelly beaten by Maradona and Argentina one time but they did beat Uruguay. Far more chance in the Asian group although Japan, S Korea etc are real good sides. Struggled to beat Jordan a few months back but will advance easily to next round where 4 teams automatically qualify. from groups. Am sure like you said must have come into his thinking. Scotland are massively improving though but be great to see him at the WC

Scotland with Tierney and Robertson, midfield of Mctominay, Gilmour and Mcginn, Adams has come in and has improved the attack, Scotland are just missing a big man at the back who can play out, Souttar would be playing for Scotland in these euros and Scotland should have a decent few years ahead with those players

He’s also consigned himself to way more tiresome travelling every international break down the years as well.

With Oz being in the Asian groups it isn't so much travelling although 6 home games I think. I don't personally think he'd have made the Euros but doubt was a rash decision at all

I bet his Chilean family and fans think it is weird that, had he been better, he could have played for England! Sorry to chuckle, but having parents/grandparents of several nationalities (often from opposite sides of the world) is not uncommon these days. Should the grandchildren of the lady in my life shine at sport they will be able to choose to represent England, Scotland or Thailand! I I found out recently that I could have played for Scotland. bit late now as my grandmother was born there but lived in Ireland all her life. Us Jocks of course have qualified for the Euros Meaning I have to retire one of my all time fave jokes. What do you call a Scotsman at a World/European Cup? Ref.

Me too. Must be player's ultimate goal. A bit of travelling killed no one. Apart from Buddy Holly and John Denver

Well he came on in difficult circumstances (Arge pushing for a winner), had a few good touches and lay-offs, made two clearances from corners and had one good dribble going past a couple of players. Now he’s trending #1 in Chile and there are memes of him all over the place. Bet he never expected this a few months ago

They’re clamouring for him to start next game. To be fair they’re badly lacking a proper centre forward, not quite sure his current goals record is what they’re after mind 😬

Good to see local lad and ex Stoke striker Brereton getting international call up for Chile. Chile must be hard up!

Good to see local lad and ex Stoke striker Brereton getting international call up for Chile. Chile must be hard up! Bit harsh. He had an okay goal return, but in that Blackburn side, a second striker isn’t really there to score goals. He’s there to provide opportunities for Armstrong.

All Spanish speakers have both their father's surname and mother's surname in that format (as in Quique Sanchez Flores). As his Chilean lineage is down his mum's side it's understandable he wanted to represent it to be fair.
