Sunderland are a strange club. They have owners that are an extremely rich family yet it seems from the outside that they are run with a comparatively restrictive corner shop budget.
A club that could easily pull in regular 40k+ crowds with the right backing.
They'd never shut up about it though and would pour scorn over other clubs with smaller gates, but that's another argument for another day... 🤣

Chelsea sacking Poch It's all so familiar Football on repeat Really it’s not that familiar to me. I don’t think many managers who are doing a good job get sacked. That situation and their chosen replacement screams bizarre.

Palladino to Forentina good move for both.

Haway will not be happy. The final 3 for the S’land job appear to be the managers of St Mirren, Stockport and Alkmaar. Good grief.

I'm trying to imagine the state of this forum if we went 3 months without a manager It’s a completely different situation to how our club has operated up until now. We’ve always allowed a manager to shape the club in their own image. Sunderland only want a manager/HC to come in and fit into the vision that has been directed. It shouldn’t take that long but it’s then it wasn’t critical to make an appointment they were highly unlikely to go up or down in any case. Hopefully it’s how we’ll work in the future where a HC or any other appointment has to fit into the ethos of the club not import their own. If the person giving the direction can then stick with it for more than five minutes we might just get somewhere.

I’d be happy with either to be fair, but would prefer Jansen. Has experience of working under a very similar model at AZ Alkmaar with a very young squad, and has a good record in the Eredvise (58% win percentage at AZ). Rosenior is a solid option for a championship team, so I’d be okay with it. The St Mirren one would have been a disaster so I’m glad there’s nothing in that.

Clearly did a good job for us overall and had us playing decent stuff before his move to you, so in theory I’d be okay him coming back if he wasn’t obsessed with being in charge of recruitment. However the way he left us (sat in the stands when you were away to Blackburn, and left his assistant to take charge of our game at home to Norwich the next day) left a very sour taste in our mouths, so we won’t accept him purely for that. If he just took charge of the game v Norwich and then went down to Stoke the following day, I think most won’t have much of a problem with him.

Rosenior must be about the 5th or 6th who's gone odds-on for the Sunderland job, then been ruled out. Strange what's going on up there

Give it to Phillipsy till end of season. Haway - Nixon on Twitter reckons you’re after the QPR manager He’s the fave now. He’s probably the 6th different manager to be listed as favourite, but still…

Why on earth would Cifuentes leave QPR and London for a club in the arse end of nowhere that seemingly operates a weird version of moneyball where he has absolutely no say in who the club signs?

Perhaps he thinks he’s a good coach and wants to live on the Northumbria coast. Suppose it depends whether he wants to work with high potential young players and live somewhere idyllic.

Given that the owners are complete fruit cakes and Durham would more than likely be where he lives rather than the Northumbrian Coast (which is stunning) he'd be going for the pay rise!!!

That said, I asked Denis Smith out of all the clubs he managed which city was his favourite and he said Durham.
