just wondered what everyone thinks of the squad and who we should keep and who to let go. doesnt have to be realistic just what do people think are the areas to improve. for me.... GK Gunn - goes Davies - keep starts Bursik - keep Noukeu - loan out Defence Fox - go Batth - keep backup Chester - Keep backup Smith - keep starts Collins - keep starts Souttar - keep starts Tymon - Keep RND - keep starts get - 1 RB to start,1 CB,1 LB as backup Midfield Allen - go Clucas - go Mikel - keep Cousins - go Thompson - go McClean - backup or go Brown - keep Oakley-Boothe - backup Powell - keep Matando - loan in Doughty - keep need - 2 DM, 1 RW, 1 AM, 1 LW Strikers Vokes - go Fletcher - backup Campbell - starts need - 2 STs anybody thats out on loan or contracts up should go as well ie. etebo, woods. Sell or release most of the midfield and bring in some players with so mobility. And try to make the most of a pacey front 3 with Campbell up the middle. would probably play a 4-2-3-1 Campbell upfront with Brown Powell Matando of him. Davies Smith Souttar Collins RND/Tymon Mikel New Player Brown Powell Matando/New Player Campbell so prob need up to 11 in and maybe 5 or 6 out. Whats your thoughts??

It is up to the manager.
His job depends on getting it right.

It's very simple. Cousins goes. Everyone else has the right by contract to stay on our books.

Many of the players we would want to see away from the club remain on lucrative contracts so we can't simply let them go. Few, if any, of those players have done enough to put themselves in the shop window to attract other clubs to sign them and they are unlikely to be as handsomely paid as they are at the Bet365. We will be stuck with most of them. If we can't get rid of them FFP will prevent us from signing much quality until the contracts of the deadwood finally run out. I think we'll be lucky to sign anymore than a handful of loans and out of contract players.

There are very few senior players that I would keep, given the chance, but contracts will mean most of them staying unless, strangely, we get offers for them
So, the best we can hope for is that most of them go out on loan
Personally, if it were possible, I would only keep the following:
All the youngsters (Bursik, Collins, Souttar etc)
Davies Clucas Thompson Brown Fletcher Powell Campbell Doughty maybe Tymon & Fox

I’d like to see the following players go.
Gunn Chester Allen Etebo Tymon Vokes McClean Bauer Gregory
The not too sure selection Batth Smith Clucas Mikel Edwards Indi Cousins Sorensen Oakley Boothe
I’d keep Davies Bursik Collins Souttar Fox Thompson Powell Fletcher Brown Campbell
I’d also like to get Matondo and RND back, and keep all the youth players

Harsh on Fox. He’s pretty much better at all aspects of playing full back than RND.
I think this should be the starting XI
Bursik
New RB Collins Souttar Fox
New DM Mikel
Campbell Powell Doughty
Fletcher
Then it’s about cover.
Coates to fight for a right back spot is good.
Forrester and one of Batth and Chester for CB.
We’d need left back cover. I don’t like RND and I can’t see him being free.
I think we’ll get rid of Allen and Clucas.
Sadly we’ll keep Thompson.
Corry Evans and another to sign to cover midfield.
We need better than Brown, Tymon and McClean to back up the wingers the above team. Clarke and Matondo fit that Bill but can we do better? I’d hope so.
We need a striker to compete with Fletcher too.
So ideally:
Starting right back Back up left back Starting DM 2 rotation CMs 1 right winger 1 left winger 1 striker
We’re not going to touch that are we?

Basically we have created such a mess and are in such deep FFP hole, we really hold no cards What a legacy - not

Davies & Bursik are fine. No need for Gunn
Smith and Fox need back up or improving
Collins and Souttar could well be sold leaving Batth and Chester at CB
Campbell will probably have to prove he's over his injury
Allen and Clucas plus Etebo could well move on depending on offers.
Looks like we are stuck with Mikel for 1 more year.Thompson is just ok.
Ince, McClean could move on,if we are fortunate. Looks like we are stuck with Vokes. Ideally I'd go for next year
Davies/ Bursik
Smith/ Better Batth/ new signing Chester/ new signing Fox/ N/Davies
Mikel/ new signing Thompson/ new signing
Campbell/ Ince Powell/ if not sold Doughty
Fletcher/ new signing

Wonder if we'd stand a chance, re. FFP of getting Iorfa from Sheff Wed for right back? Absolutely rapid and still only 25.

I’m not convinced we’ll get a right back. The wingers are already in play and I think Clarke and Matondo will both re sign. And we have to sign a striker. Probably Delap on loan.

Do you really think we’re going to premier league with fucking Mikel in midfield? I think he needs to be managed much better. He started the season well and has finished it well. In between he’s been overplayed and used terribly. He can’t play 3 games in a week. His performance usually drops off a cliff after 60 minutes. It’s all easily negated but MoN just hasn’t done it.

Don’t think we’ll sign more for CM until we can get a few out of the door. To me a successful window would be permanently shifting about twice as many out as we get in. As things stand, for me the priorities are; Right Back Defensive Midfielder Striker If we could get some of these on loan and maybe get some wing cover that would be good as we don’t know how Doughty and Campbell will perform after injury. For me, we need to try and improve but I think it will be another inconsistent season. If we can integrate some of the youngsters ready for when all of the contracts expire in 2022 that would be progress.

Corry Evans seems nailed on. And if Blackburn want Clucas and we want Rothwell (if they exercise their option on him) then a swap could work? I don’t think that’s too far from what will happen and realism.

Davies, Bursik, Collins, Souttar, Campbell to stay,
All the others have struggled with either attitude, poor performance or injuries so can all leave with an extremely inflated bank balance courtesy of our fail safe recruitment policy.

I thought Cousins did well, but he is not close to Mikel when it comes to quality on the ball. When fully fit Mikel really is class at this level. He showed this in the last games before his injury and again during the last month in my opinion. My only worry is his age, but we certainly need the few players with real quality that we have!

For me
Bursik Davies Collins Souttar Powell Campbell Fletcher Norton Brown
Stay, the rest (excluding the youngsters and Doughty) can fuck off. Would like to try and get RND and Matondo again if possible. Now Dheff Utd have come down I think RND is a definite no ho

I generally agree. We should move out everyone over 30 by sale, loan, pay off that we are able to, and concentrate on building a young team squad for 22-23. We are miles away from a playoff off place with the current squad and financially unable to buy decent players. Continuing to bring in mature rejects, free agents, etc. as the last 3 managers have, is not going to achieve promotion.
