I like Surridge, but if those chances had fallen to Campbell these past 2 games, we would be 5 pts better off now. An extra 2pts vs Barnsley + 1pt vs Derby = 3 😉

I doesn't though but any good striker's goals will be welcome in any team. Campbell is the only striker we have who can get involved in build up play with any degree of skill and technical ability. We haven't struggled with build up play particularly this season have we? We have created many chances but not taken them, that's where Campbell comes into his own.

The best we have and any team would miss losing their best striker. Just good that he's on the brink of a return rather than a negative spin on it. It's not a negative spin. We're too reliant on him We've been without him for a year so relied on him in no way. His return will be a huge bonus to the side. I know he brings far more than goals but he's scored15 goals for us to date

His crossing was a big part of his game before his injury but we've never relied on him as the previous poster claimed. Definitely our best attacking threat his last 25 games or so when he improved massively from a player who failed to score in his first 15 or so games. MON transformed him as certain parts of his game needed work and credit to him he improved all round.

I can't believe all this hype about the second coming of Campbell .
Is he really the Messiah or just wishful thinking ?
I can't remember his form being that brilliant prior to injury and i'm sure ( knowing this board but i can't be arsed to look ) that the same things will have been said about him that are currently being said about surridge. By the time Campbell is back and up to speed the season will be over.

I wouldn't call it hype, he's one of our best players who would improve our starting 11. Not hype just anticipation.

Season before when he broke into the first team after O’Neil joined, he scored 8 in the second half of the season. These stats would be impressive for an established Championship player. Tyrese coming back will only improve us.

The truth probably lies more in the middle. All indications are that he’s a big player who will improve our prospects, but he’s also still very young so it’s not infathomable that the good form and product he showed was more of a hot streak than actual average level? Hopefully not and hopefully he is the real deal. I’m more worried about his injury issues though. How frustrating if he does turn out to be consistently dynamite when he’s match fit, but he ends up being our Daniel Sturridge and rarely has a consistent run in the squad.

We’ve been a much better team when he’s played that when he’s not. He may take a while to get up to speed again but at anywhere close to full fitness is an absolute force to be reckoned with at this level and fans are right to be excited.

A fit Campbell won't be far off 20 goals a season at this level if he gets 40+ games in my opinion. Time will tell though!

Looks like we are going to be completely dependant on him again in attack. A situation we were supposed to address in the summer and failed Have you ever written anything positive about Stoke? It’s a real downer scrolling through this forum and just reading line after line of your moaning. Don’t read his posts then , he’s entitled to his opinion just as much as you are yours

He hasn't score 20 goal in his entire time with us. 14 or 15 I think so far No, this is my opinion based on what I saw before his injury last season. It really was a break through season where he showed what he can do, but unfortunately he got this horrible injury. Still I think he would have come close last season as well if he hadn't been stopped by the injury. We won't get the answer to this before he gets a full season under his belt, but as said, my opinion is he has the tools to achieve it.

So he was on course for a 15-20 goal season. I’d be very happy if he got somewhere between 10-15 this season and would expect him to get close, if not exceed 20, next year if he remains fit this season and finds decent form. He looked a cut above any opposition last year before the injury.

But he was a standout player for me and an upgrade over Surridge in every department except maybe in getting into goalscoring positions. Of course Surridge could also improve and turn out better than post-injury Ty. That said he was a great 4-2-3-1 inside forward and I'm confident he'll work in a 3-5-2 but it's another thing that could go wrong. Still, it's lovely to be excited about a player so I'm gonna enjoy it.

Campbell back by WBA or is that too ambitious - maybe on the bench and getting 15/20 mins by then?

We sank like a stone when he got injured and went from top of the table on good form to not winning a game for weeks on end.

Fairly sure Joe Allen only played 2 games for under 23s before playing in the first team. Not totally crazy to think he could be on bench for Hull.
