If Hales doesn’t get picked now he surely never will! Think Pope is injured? It’ll be interesting that’s for sure I always assumed he wouldn’t play again whilst Morgan was captain. Imagine Darren Stevens getting a call up👀

If I could throw my hat into the ring also, I played a 3rd XI T20 game a couple of weekends back and hit 10* from 5 balls including 2 (streaky) fours.
With that kind of strike rate I'd like to think I have a chance.
We won't talk about the dropped catch, the sun was in my eyes.......

My last game, albeit some 15 years ago, was in beautiful Melrose in the Borders and I scored a 50 opening the batting. I’d also be more than happy to pick up the willow once more if my country needs help in its hour of need.

In my last full season probably around the same length of time ago my proudest moment was a 30 over rear guard action to bat out for a draw where I was about 6 not out from 100 balls. I was always more Boycott than Buttler.........

My last foray was about 6 weeks ago where I batted at 6 and made a swash buckling 1 off 1 from the final ball of the innings. Also bowled 1 over for 8. Not sure either will see me force my way in to the managements thinking this time around!

Can't believe my old nemesis Jake Ball is in the squad, he's terrible Some decent batting talent amongst that lot, the bowling attack looks a bit like cannon fodder though. Couple of guys I know very little about, David Payne and Tom Helm. Brydon Carse and Will Jacks definitely ones to watch. Quite excited to be watching a load of new blood in fairness, in front of a full house as well will give some a massive opportunity to stake a claim...... Ben Stokes (Durham, captain) Jake Ball (Nottinghamshire) Danny Briggs (Warwickshire) Brydon Carse (Durham) Zak Crawley (Kent) Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire) Lewis Gregory (Somerset) Tom Helm (Middlesex) Will Jacks (Surrey) Dan Lawrence (Essex) Saqib Mahmood (Lancashire) Dawid Malan (Yorkshire) Craig Overton (Somerset) Matt Parkinson (Lancashire) David Payne (Gloucestershire) Phil Salt (Sussex) John Simpson (Middlesex) James Vince (Hampshire)

If it was the longer format the skipper was right to haul you off.......

He scored a hundred. And he was a bowler! Yes. The opposition bowling was awful. Interesting fact for you. The West of Scotland ground in Patrick (appropriately) is where the first ever international football game (between Scotland and England) was played. Hallowed ground!

I’m not a bowler to be fair, usually opening bat but reshuffled the order for the last game, hoping to be back at the top next time.

I’d love to know what more Sam Hain has to do to get a game? Very strange that one.

Can't understand how I failed to make the squad after keeping wicket for the first time in 20 odd years at LLaniden the previous weekend, possibly due to the selectors checking me out on monday, tuesday or wednesday afterwards - when my thighs hurt so much i could barely move...

I’m a little surprised they didn’t pick Anderson and Broad for the squad and play one of them in each game to provide some experience to the bowling attack.

After the excitement of yesterday evening, we return quickly to our summer national sport today.
Yes, it’s the first ODI where England’s Covid free 11 take on Pakistan.
Kick off 13.00.
Should be fascinating with so many new and rarely seen faces playing.

Pakistan 141 all out, great effort from the new boys...... Agreed. The Lancashire boys will be quite happy (well, apart from that dreadful Parkinson drop at the end). Disappointing from Pakistan though. That could have been Sri Lanka out there with the bat. Let’s hope this was just a case of first day nerves.

A lovely bit of rear guard action from Hashim Amla in the Surrey v Hampshire game, 4 not out from 109 balls batting out for a draw...... Worth, I think, an update on Amla’s knock yesterday. Seems like he hit the accelerator ending up on 37 not out of 278 balls in a little over 6 hours helping Surrey secure a draw. Put another way, he batted an entire day and scored 37 runs. Awesome stuff.

Awesome stuff. If you needed someone to bat all day for your life, there wouldn't be many above him. Reminded me of the India v South Africa test in 2015 when Amla and de Villiers faced about 600 balls between them but just failed to hang on for a draw. I think SA ended up 130 all out from 140 overs or something daft.......

Another stroll in the park today for England.
Still, a good day for Malan and Crawley who I reckon are auditioning for the test side. Malan certainly looks the part, Crawley looks like he has regained some confidence. This will give the selectors something to ponder when they figure who from those two, Burns and Sibley make up the top 3 against India and, you would imagine, Australia.

Crawley is having a very good season in white ball cricket, could it be that that’s seeing his technique unraveling in test cricket of late?
