So sad to see a beautiful rover destroyed. For me it asks questions about the role and powers of Non government organisations ( and by extension all supra national bodies.....United Nations sounds great , but hardly "United" ( I'm not totally dismissing their role, perhaps better than nothing as at least a forum for issues)...the Environmental Agency also sounds great but is ineffective. We have to rethink many things if we are serious about protecting the future and sustaining the planet, more important than trade and profit, but has to do with lifestyle, expectations, food supply. ( and there is no reason we cannot set and enforce UK standards if we had the will, the government, the leadership but a means of making it a major public/ national issue. We will regret doing nothing or very little......of course the politicians will come out and list all the things they have done......diverting from the fact that it clearly is not enough. Goodbye the River Wye Environment Agency failed to protect River Wye from chicken waste, court hears Environment Agency failed to protect River Wye from chicken waste, court hears Campaigners argue in legal challenge that loophole has allowed poultry farmers to pollute river www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/feb/07/environment-agency-failed-protect-river-wye-pollution-chicken-waste-courtItās quite interesting that the NFU are a major problem in this issue. I appreciate the financial challenges that they face but to do it at expense of their local environment and be so willing to do so is surely going to have a significant impact on farmers in the future.

This lady explains it well.
A carbon neutral car that weighs 1,000lb less but is stronger than it's steel counterpart sounds like quite a good plan to follow to me..

Something every single person on the planet should be cross about š What about those in a relationship? Missed this musik, I see what you did there š Yes, those too, possibly more so, they're the ones who might have to watch their loved ones suffer or die because of a ridiculous nonsensical law.

Missed this musik, I see what you did there š Yes, those too, possibly more so, they're the ones who might have to watch their loved ones suffer or die because of a ridiculous nonsensical law. The key to the environment is to simply stop building. For 2 parents to have 1 child and to allow trees the opportunity to do their jobs.

If we're using hemp to build I'd have thought the more we use the better, as long as the processes used don't decrease the viability regarding the CO2 capture to the degree it isn't a net benefit. If we switched to hemp instead of trees (and I can't see any good reason not to) we can leave the trees where they are, as you say, doing their job.

And how much new land would you have to tear up to make hemp the number one construction material in the World? Are you saying that every available spot for agriculture is already taken up? I honestly don't know tbh, if you watch the second video the Germans (amongst others) have already made a start, albeit small in the grand scheme of things. Replacing cotton clothing with hemp would be a start, less chemicals and pesticides, far less water and it conditions the soil as well as locking CO2 into the garment. Why wouldn't we want cars that use less fuel but are stronger? Or aeroplanes? I doubt it is scalable enough to completely replace everything but at the moment, instead of doing all we can we're doing pretty much nothing, basically thanks to a law that has never made any sense and isn't based on any actual evidence.

I realise it's difficult to outline exactly what you mean by a one child policy in one sentence The last time it was attempted on scale it was controversial and heavily criticised in the West, probably because it was China There are Social and Natural Science considerations as well as abuses that took place Eugenics, Pay a fine for those that could afford it, well connected ignored it, very late term voluntary or forced abortions, gender selection etc With advances in Stem Cell, Synthetic Embryos, Blastoids etc it could open a whole Pandora's Box I'm certainly not against the idea but I think it would have to be incentive based i.e. financial, rather than an enforced policy

It absolutely would cause a lot of challenges. Not all of them would be the same in the UK, eg a desperate need for a male. However, I do expect some sort of version to come in, in generations to come. Universal basic income + AI and automation - why wouldnāt those in control want to feed fewer people?

There is a problem with our own River Yealm in the South Hams because of raw sewage pollution over several years. A friend used to operate an oyster and mussel farm on the river, but after several pollution incidents in 2018-19 he had to close it down. SW Water operate 2 sewage treatment plants that discharge their supposedly clean water into the Yealm but after several incidents they admitted that there had been 200+ spills in 2 years. Apparently a spill is counted if itās over 4 m3 anything under that is within the operating limits and isnāt counted and there are no records kept of these "small" spillages. Furthermore our village treatment plant is almost at capacity for the number of houses it can treat but South Hams continue to allow housing development and SW Water, as statutory consultees, never raise any objection because of the income new homes generate. SWW blame rain water discharge into the foul water catchments for the pollution and say thereās nothing they can do unless households stop or reduce rainwater discharging into the sewage system even though most homes in our village have soakaways to deal with surface rain water.

That is also horrendous Lawrie. Apparently the " system(s) is designed so that it discharges into rivers if it overflows, meaning thst there is then effluent discharged into rivers...someone on the Oatcake will know much more about this than me. Rather than dealing with the problem governments tend to change the way things are counted.....so that there is no longer a problem
