"If you look at the teams in the World Cups usually the average age is 27 or 28. Because the World Cup is every four years there are very few chances to win it again because when they go back to the next World Cup they are 32 or 33. "That's why maybe we should organise the World Cup every two years." That's what makes it special, you absolute Wenger. He also says we need more breaks without internationals so players can rest, yet an annual competition will surely result in more internationals for the most successful teams and players? www.bbc.co.uk/sport/56418718

Silly suggestion. If anything international football needs scaling back a little starting with this stupid Euro League thingy.
I’d also give the 12 highest ranked teams a bye into the European Championship finals in order to cut back on qualification games against San Marino and the like.

I think a promotion/relegation setup would be better (like the Nations League was supposed to be before they ruined what was actually a good competition).

Bollocks. The fact that World Cups are 4 years apart is what makes them special and their big moments so magical. The ultimate test of a player because you don't get many games in the World Cup in your career so not many chances to make a mark. The very best make it count when it matters unlike in the league where if you have a bad game there's another one, even two games next week to make amends.

The very best make it count when it matters unlike in the league where if you have a bad game there's another one, even two games next week to make amends. It does seem kind of arbitrary though. Why four years? (I know, tradition). But if it got moved to six for some unknown reason, would it be even more special? I wouldn’t be bothered having alternating big cups in the summer to be honest as long as it meant an end to pointless friendlies and stupid competitions like the Nations League.

Don't think could handle listening to the BBC spending hours talking about the Boys of 66 every year rather than the actual tournament going on.
Ridiculous idea particularly as now more and more teams qualify, Euros also.

The man is a Hypocrite.
If he was still managing at club level he would be one of the first to start wingding about fixture congestion and his players being under stress etc, etc, etc!

The qualifying groups are a complete waste of time. Run it like the FA Cup drawn out of a hat and straight knockout over one leg with extra time but no penalties. If it's a draw both teams go out.
And the final is played in the holders country in the Summer.

A good point (I heard from Tim Vickery I think) is that a bi-annual men's World Cup or Euros will be detrimental to the women's game as it will just direct more focus to the men's game and take resources away from the women's game. He had some other good reasons in opposition I don't remember.
Africa's representatives are backing a bi-annual men's World Cup, and Tim Vickery also put up a good argument for why it wouldn't be a good idea for African football.

Every three years would be OK, provided it does not compromise the qualifying schedule ..

Every three years would be OK, provided it does not compromise the qualifying schedule .. That would destroy my ability to remember what I was doing each year. My lifetime of memories are associated with either a World Cup or Euros as it’s always been an even year. If an event happened and I can’t associate with one of these championships it must have been an odd year. It’s the same with the Olympics for me and this method has proved most useful in quiz questions when they ask what year something happened or what year a song or film was released. COVID has thrown a right spanner in the works last year pushing the Euros and Olympic into an odd year, but if we went three yearly I’d be a right old mess and never remember anything again 😂😂.

I think it's a stupid idea which cheapens the the competitions and the excitement if played too often. I'm sure we'd get bored with it easily!

I think it's a stupid idea which cheapens the the competitions and the excitement if played too often. I'm sure we'd get bored with it easily! It'll just become like the Champions League. An entertaining all star competition but without that real spine tingling magic that comes from watching a tournament that only comes around every 4 years.

So we'd have a tournament every summer, alternating between Euros and World Cup. Sounds a bit much to me.

I sincerely hope that the football authorities don't listen to Wenger.
The Euros and World Cup should be played on a four year cycle. Any increase in the frequency of international tournaments would reduce their attraction in my opinion. They would become less of an event as a result.
Wenger is best ignored. If football was entirely in his hands, it would be played on a pitch akin to a bowling green, tackling would be outlawed and the players would wear ballet slippers and tutus.
