Ok - the 'stateless' question is a legal arguement. It doesn't alter the point that the British government have looked to abdicate their responsibility and worse look to foist the problem on either Bangladesh, The Netherlands or AN Other. The UK government are not the first country to strip a person of their citizenship, as for foist our problem we've done no such thing she put herself in this position so fuck her. What other countries do is neither here nor there - if we're aspire to global leadership then running scared of one of our own schoolgirls doesn't cut a good look - and if that's the best our government can do then fuck them.

Sheβs stateless sheβs not our problem She's stateless because the government made her stateless in an act of populism and cowardice and that they thought would just make the problem go away. Doesn't look like it's worked though does it? I'm no fan of the the US but hat's off for actively sereing the extradition of 'the Beatles' who aren't even American. We're running scared of a schoolgirl. Hats off to the USA who kept hundreds in guatenemo bay for 20 years, the beatles they have on film killing people, american law allows them to pursue such people when they kill americans. I am not sure UK law allows similar action even if they have similar proof on film i.e. her stitching people into suicide vests, the burden of proof for court is higher than the security information they have and would also require them to disclose how and who from they obtained the information which they may not want to do for many reasons. The claim it was for populism and cowardice is just nonsense it was done on the basis of information and advice provided by the security services and has been approved by the courts.

I wouldn't be so sure she will come back and I am sure they do have plans but from bits I have read she could only be charged with membership of ISIS unless she can be tied into some plot in the UK.

Well I do care. My concern is if we wash our hands of her she won't face justice at all. The Kurds won't keep her where she is indefinitely and she will drift back out into life somewhere to either fall on her feet or -worse - rejoin a resurgent ISIS (or other incarnation). If she comes back to the UK she can be prosecuted at the very least for being a member of a terrorist organisation - which she's never denied - and can be sentenced to 14 years imprisonment. With a bit of effort I'm sure it could be more. As she's 'ours' (whether you like that or not) I'd rather know where she is in a British prison than have it on my conscience she was still out there as a risk on someone else's patch just because we hadn't the balls to accept our responsibilities.

Why should the British taxpayers pay for her time in prison , hopefully she will die in some hell hole Because she's British, because she was radicalised in Britain, because she's our responsibility, because I'd prefer we took control of the situation rather than just leaving it to fate and 'hoping' for some natural justice when legal justice is within our gift, and because it shows maturity and leadership in dealing with home grown terror so that rather than a 'cost' the British taxpayer can view it as an 'investment' in international standing and reputation and enable us to take the moral high ground diplomatically when the occasion arises.

I'm not 100% sure but she has denied any wrong doing very recently in fact. I recall her saying that "they" have no evidence against me.

She didn't exactly say that - what she said was that 'they' have no evidence that she was a key player in direct acts of terrorism. She has admitted she was a member of a terrorist organisation and is on record in 2019 in her interview with the Times as saying she had no regrets for doing so (though has subsequently modified that by saying she was groomed). Not being a 'key player' is not enough to get her off the hook and in any event it's not her who decides what is and what isn't evidence. If a CPS lawyer can't make a decent case against her from what is in the public domain never mind what other evidence may be available then that lawyer should seriously think about taking up another career.

That's why I said I wasn't 100% sure but thanks for the clarification. It doesn't change my mind though she's fine where she is for me alternatively send her to Afghanistan to help the fight against terror by gathering evidence just a thought she might be useful there.

Hasn't changed my mind that she should be brought back to face trial here either. So as we're not going to agree then best to move on.

Currently watching Faking It on Discovery+, Shamima Begum is the subject of this episode. All about analyzing her body language and language to see if she's bullshitting in the various interviews.
Early signs are... She's lying. Any surprise?
