I'm very glad that we made Luton look like a bunch of chumps today. However, I'm going to say something that will be unpopular.
Whether our players like it or not, Nathan Jones turned up today having steered a Luton side that spent most of last season rooted to the bottom of the table into a safe midtable position. He did a miracle last year to keep them up and has managed to get them punching above their weight this season despite spending a sum total of £0. Instead of ridiculing him on Twitter, perhaps our players would do better to reflect on why the most expensively assembled squad in the history of the Championship was seemingly far less capable of performing for him than a bunch of third division players. When well-paid players and their parents happily criticise the manager and his tactics to random passers by (see numerous past Oatcake threads), Nick Powell behaves as he did away at Luton and our current players start up the social media fun and games, it doesn't take long to put together a picture that our superstars simply didn't want to play for what they perceived to be a third division manager.
Having said all of that, I've no idea how Luton can be doing as well as they are. They were hopelessly disorganised and managed to leave enormous spaces all over the pitch. They were lucky that we only scored three.

It’s feasible the chest beating and the acting after every rare victory as if you were the sole architect and are, after all, the second coming of Rinus Michels, doesn’t necessarily do a lot for morale.

I've never understood the vitriol towards him but my god, watching that interview, I don't miss hearing that erratic voice post-three-nil loss. He’s a massive massive cunt.

We have no idea what it's like to work for the manager day to day really, the only real indication is good results and happy players. Whilst it isn't exactly professional, their tweets would suggest Jones really rubbed them up the wrong way. I don't doubt for a second Nathan Jones has done and is doing a good job for Luton but the truth is, I couldn't give a shit about Luton. He was disastrous for Stoke.

He's fucking either totally insane or on cocaine. He reminds me of some crazy drunk bloke you meet at 11pm on a Friday. He'll blow an o ring one day. Can you imagine how it went down having motivational messages from Mad Nath stuck if you were Nick Powell? 🙄

I don't doubt for a second Nathan Jones has done and is doing a good job for Luton but the truth is, I couldn't give a shit about Luton. He was disastrous for Stoke. Yep, it's a two-way street and it's obviously also a failure of leadership to an extent if you can't get people to buy into your methods. I've just got so little time for our players crowing about how clever they are in beating a former manager after watching two and a half seasons of the most expensive squad in the history of the second tier of English football swanning about a pitch deciding whether or not their opponents are worthy of them bothering to turn up. It's high time that they shouldered a bit of responsibility. There were plenty of other failures, of course. I wonder how different things might have been had we been able to shift out the big earners that we tried to move on, or if our transfer shortlist was more creative than 'James Justin, and failing that, Stephen Ward'. Alan Ball was one of our club's worst ever managers, if not the worst. He was a terrible manager wherever he went. Nathan Jones was atrocious with us, but was an outstanding manager at Luton before he joined us and is working wonders there now. It can't all be the manager.

Considering what he was given at Stoke, pound for pound he's our worst manager. An odd character that does well at one club only. I don't think players taking the urine comes across particularly well either -its funny for 5 mins, but tomorrow they'll regret it . As people have mentioned they should be a bit more professional. Footballers and twitter is a bad thing, they rarely make themselves look anything other than bellends.

Says it all about this utter clown that we hardly ever beat our ex managers. We've played that melt twice, smashed them both times scoring five goals and they've barely troubled the goalkeeper. Complete idiot This about sums it up for me

No-ones mentioned Tom Ince to my knowledge throughout the matchday.
Wonder if he gave Jones duff information about our current tactical approach or did Ince inadvertently feed some Luton info back to his Stoke team mates or management to give us the upper hand? Be interesting to know what his thoughts were today, happy with a pretty convincing Stoke victory, or was he gutted for his current clubs poor showing at the hands of his parent club?! 🤔🤔

He’s clearly an utter bellend who has no clue how to conduct himself. The way he operates leave him open to this sort of stuff.

Having seen that post match interview I fear for Nathan’s mental health.
That was no normal media interview. Many managers may have similar feelings about their teams performance but would not dream of voicing them so forcefully and publicly.
I would imagine the atmosphere in the Luton changing room will be toxic. Ince must be wondering what he has let himself in for.!
It will be interesting to see how they react for the rest of the season. I would not be surprised to see them go into free fall. ?

I think he’s frustrated, even more so as he’ll have tried extra hard to fire the players up as this is a really important game for NJ but they absolutely flopped for him and they’ll know that publicly or privately.
