On the grass outside work here in Belfast on the side of the lough, a few oyster catchers and black tailed godwits, at lunchtime I walked around to the RSPB window on wildlife site, a few guys and a lady saying there were the godwits here for a couple of days, but they've gone now 😁 I said they are by the road around the corner

It’s funny now as when we open the blinds in the morning there’s birds waiting on the lawn for their food, well seems that way. We’ve got buzzards very close by absolutely majestic things and rooks everywhere. The local farmers have set something up that keeps banging like a shot gun to keep the birds of the seeds I presume, which is good as we get them in the gardens then. It’s a gas gun and is operated off a calor gas bottle and you can set it to go off every few minutes

We've got redwings or fieldfares up ours at the moment, not got close enough to tell yet. The bramblings were here last year but nothing yet. Cracking photos of the barn owl, well done. My daughter was showing me some of your photos at the weekend apparently you know each other, it's a small world. I'll send you one of those messages in a bit.

As the sun was going down over the marsh last week. I captured my favourite bird. Who came out in search of food. Blessed to see these magnificent creatures in flight.

I once saw a Nightjar close up and personal as I was walking the dogs in Hanchurch Woods. I was approaching a fallen tree and as I got close it flew off. It couldn't have been a couple of yards away but it was so well camouflaged lying on top of the tree that it was impossible to see until it revealed itself. Many years ago, again when I was giving the dogs their last walk of the day and it was dark, I heard this strange bird call and wondered what the hell it was. The strangest thing about it was that it seemed to come from many places and I hadn't got a clue where it actually was. Then, a couple of days later I read in The Sentnull that nightjars can throw their strange voices. Amazing! OS.

David Farland, a writer whose advice I've followed for years and whose course I'd been on for 3 months died last week. The following morning, my gloom took me out into the fog, and I saw this absolute beauty, which after looking online I think is a great white egret? chuffedstokie's post above makes me less sure unless egrets are different to great white egrets. I heard the bird calling so went to investigate. I couldn't see anything at first, and there it was for a few seconds before disappearing like a ghost. Edit: now I think it's a little egret because the beak isn't yellow? That would also be more likely according to the number in the UK during winter recorded on the RSPB website.

Definitely a great Egret. A mate of mine here saw the pic and knows the feathered locals very well 👍. He's put me right a couple of times on mis identification especially with the cormorants.

Guys as you know. I photograph all time amd also work with RSPB. Firstly cracking photo. Well done. Id like to confirm tho. What you have there is a Little Egret. First yes the black beak means its one. Also Little Egrets have black legs and yellow feet like in the photo. GWE as you say have yellow beaks and yellow legs. They had a piece on Winter Watch on Egrets last night showing the three Egrets we get. Ive never managed to photograph Cattle Egret. The rarest of the three for sure. I know a few sites they have been seen though.
