A number of years ago a friend woke to find a local heron standing beside his pond with one of his prize coy carp nestled in its beak. He went out and purchased a very realistic and pricey plastic heron as he was told that herons don’t feed in pairs, anyway after positioning the plastic heron beside his pond he woke the following day or so after to find the local heron sitting snugly alongside his new plastic friend 🤣 They emptied my pond three years ago koi the lot, have netted it now but you have to have the netting 12" above the surface to stop them reaching surface feeding fish, the decoys don't work they spot them on fly past especially in breeding season, even then if you don't move the decoys about they suss them out, very intelligent birds almost prehistoric looking. Superb advice, Karps. Anyone who has a garden pond with fish, take note of this advice and get it netted NOW if you haven't already!

Lets see who can get this then. Taken today. Who can see it and tell me what they think it is. Clues are. It was seen on water early morning. Went into reeds. Didnt come back out. Was camouflaged very well. Thought it was going to come back out but everytime it got to edge of reeds it turned around and moved back. I stood in a hide trying for hour to film it. This is best i could get.

There was a humorous incident last year when the male dropped its catch as it landed it looked around puzzled then flew off to get another one, big fish as well. Good job there's a plentiful supply in the Dyfi.

The grey wag tails I’ve seen them for a number of weeks now, there seems to be a few pairs right by us on the canal.

Dont Lapwings make the weirdest call i saw them sun when walking near Roaches. Yeah it is a strange call, they nest in one of the fields next to ours, they've been feeding on ours since we harrowed them.
