They need a strong ticket now. I have no idea how they are going to build from this. Harris and Newsom? I can’t see many others being well known enough and having the funding capabilities to mount a successful campaign drive this late into the game. Fucking Biden, what a mess.

I don't think Trump's side will let Biden run down his term so easily. If he's standing down they will ask if he's fit to be president.

The story with Biden is he could win the blue collar vote in those crucial swing states and so it proved last time. Newsom looks the part but won't he get portrayed by the GOP as a 'born to rule' posh bloke from San Franciso who knows nothing of urban decay in Youngstown for example? Do the Dems have an earthy man of the people, up from the streets sort of fella who could serve as Harris deputy?

Kamala Harris can’t beat trump.
If she picks a senior running mate she’s in the shadow.
I suspect a heavyweight democrat to come through

I think you are right, unless the Democrats can find an up from the mean streets, made good blue-collar hero to stand as her running mate then I fancy they are knackered. And I'm not sure they have such a person.

I think that Buttigieg should be given a shot but there is not a chance in hell that they would pick a black woman and a homosexual man as nominee and vice. They could throw a huge curveball and ask Manchin. That would be interesting in of itself. I can’t see them risking that either. Andy Beshear wouldn’t be a bad option but military service would be welcome from one of them. Roy Cooper is less well-known but again, hasn’t served. Wes Moore has served but the US aren’t electing a black woman/male pair into office. If Kamala didn’t want it, I’d try with him and Beshear.

Correct decision, probably 6 months too late. I think he should have been preparing the road a lot lot sooner. Time will tell how he's judged but I think this is the right call. They'll probably say he screwed everyone leaving it so late. Biden's term has a achieved a lot of great things and made the world better for most people. He genuinely seems a decent man who has worked to try and heal the US. Thank you Mr President for that.

Correct decision, probably 6 months too late. I'm not sure. We ran an entire election in 5 weeks. It's still 4 months away, until recently American campaigns were much much shorter, Eisenhower only left his NATO job in the June in 1952 and the Democrat in July. The right candidate ignites this election, my concern is they don't agree quickly enough.

The republicans want to completely change the US into a Putin-style dictatorship and give all the wealth and power to billionaire oligarchs. And the opposition to that is just faffing about to the last minute. An unbelievably consequential election. It's almost like a comedy.

It's such a big thing in the US. I think it will be a white male, they won't run with 2 'diverse' candidates.

However in a presidential system like the US it's almost a constant cycle of electioneering and this feels like too little to late.
